The Career Counselor provides career counseling to customers to improve their education and professional skillset and helps them to obtain employment along their chosen career pathway by providing intensive career advising and case management services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Interviews and engages customers in a comprehensive assessment that includes career aptitude assessments to help evaluate the customers’ interests, skills, education levels and abilities.
• Provides customers with interview and resume assistance, soft skill development, and training opportunities.
• Identifies barriers that would prevent a successful engagement of the customers.
• Determines customer eligibility for local, state, and federal workforce development programs and activities.
• Provides customers with information on the local job market, employment services and resources, educational opportunities, and other available services.
• Identifies customer support service needs and provides assistance in a timely manner.
• Follows up with customers engaged in workforce activities.
• Enters data for all services according to policies and procedures accurately into multiple information systems.
• Maintains quality case files with all required documents and with all filing up to date.
• Facilitate workshops and orientations, and present about Career Center services and programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned and fulfills responsibilities as required.

 REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.
• Familiarity with the communities being served.
• Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS  

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in a relevant field of study.
• One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
• Knowledgeable in the use of word processing and spreadsheet software programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS 

Physical requirements include lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally. Subject to standing, sitting, bending, and kneeling for long periods to perform job scope. Requires visual acuity, speech and hearing.  Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May require use of personal vehicle for occasional site visits.
