    Job Description

    REF# CHA18359 SCOPE:

    • The Telecom CAD/GIS Technician will use computers to create and manipulate geolocated maps for optical fiber telecom network designs using CAD/GIS software and a combination of pre-existing GIS data and field survey data.
    • These maps will be used by Design Technicians and Engineers to create detailed optical network designs and bills-of-material to assist internal and external customers in making vital decisions about major projects and drive deployment of projects.
    • The CAD/GIS Technician will use technology to generate base maps for complex projects.
    • These will typically be 2D maps with extensive annotation.
    • The CAD/GIS Technician must have strong computer skills and intermediate knowledge of design software including AutoCAD and GIS platforms such as ESRI or QGIS.
    • Communication is also an essential part of CAD/GIS design.

    • The CAD/GIS Technician must work with Design Technicians and Engineers to assist in setting timelines, budgets, and in making decisions regarding materials that will be used to complete projects.

    Must Haves:

    • The CAD/GIS Technician must have the ability to quickly learn products, engineering standards, field practices, and the materials used to convert a plan into reality.
    • The CAD/GIS Technician may be required to assist in field survey work from time to time using GPS-based data collection equipment such as Trimble or IKE. Other survey equipment such as measuring wheels and range finders may also be used.

    CAD/GIS Design Technician Responsibilities:

    •  Use software to create maps to be used in complex projects.
    •  Collaborate with others to assist in establishing timelines and budgets, as well as solve problems.
    •  Ability to quickly gain knowledge of the industry, standards, and materials.
    • Ability to assess information to assist in developing creative solutions.
    •  Ability to research and learn tools and procedures independently.
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS: CAD/GIS Design Technician Requirements:

    • Associate degree (strongly preferred) or equivalent experience.
    •  Exposure to civil engineering a plus.
    •  Sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computers.
    •  Intermediate experience with AutoCAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D experience preferred).
    •  Intermediate experience with a GIS platform such as ESRI or QGIS.
    • Ability to learn the use of electronic and mechanical field survey equipment.
    •  Ability to make decisions independently.
    •  Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with others to solve problems.
    •  Competent in mathematics and ability to learn industry information.
    •  Some travel may be required. If travel is required will only be local.

    THIS IS A CONTRACT POSITION.

    • Location: USA - NC - Charlotte
    • Duration of contract: 7 Months
    • Education/Experience: Associate degree (strongly preferred) or equivalent experience.
    • Pay Rate: $15-22 per hr
