    PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER FOR PERSONAL CARE, BEAUTY, COSMETICS, SKIN CARE, HAIR & BODY

    POSITION SUMMARY: The Product Development Manager is responsible for the conceptualization, initiation, development, evaluation and follow-through for our prestige and emerging lines focusing on Skin Care, Face, Body and Hair Care product development and formula innovations and improvements in our line with our company’s core principles and mission in mind.

     

    The Product Development Manager will also keep abreast of the latest trends and innovation opportunities in sustainable packaging and product design. The chosen candidate will collaborate cross-functionally to ensure the parameters of the product development time-line, budget and schedule are followed. You will be responsible for directly recruiting, managing, developing and inspiring the product development team at our offices in Cerritos and Norwalk, CA.

     

    The Product Development Manager will be a strategic and results-driven individual to help direct product development functions and drive brand growth via strong prestige product development innovation and execution. The ideal candidate will have a skillset driving the ideation of innovative product ideas, including marketing channel targeting, sales revenue and P&L projections through all channels, target channel identification, evaluating formula submissions, directing labs, validating claims and product performance objectives, as well as problem solving skills.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plan, ideate, identify market/demographics/sales channels, create sales/revenue/P&L projections, distribution, research, etc.

    • Recruit, manage and direct product development team members

    • Lead new formula development and reformulations for calendarized programs, ensuring development meets our company's’ mission and commitments to performance, ethics and safety

    • Establish benchmarks, work closely with R&D and external labs to deliver on products objectives, understand issues, trends, technologies and reviews product submissions, providing feedback/direction/redirects, establishing user testing, and approves initial formulas.

    • Create compelling product concepts and package designs, working closely with the Chief Scientific Officer and Creative Director, that generates exciting new opportunities for brand growth

    • Prioritize and manage multiple projects with a high level of detail in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment

    • Ensure all programs have development briefs and product training guides

    • Partner with the cross functional team to ensure products are brought to market on-time and on-budget

    • Manage projects with strategic partners and contract manufacturers

    • Manage and report all clinical, sensory and consumer testing for products in development

    • Work with team to ensure compliance with all regulations

    • Facilitate cross-departmental coordination to ensure crucial aspects of product development are communicated with Operations, Sales, Legal and Global Product Safety

    • Attend industry events, trade shows and supplier meetings to stay abreast of current trends and technologies

     

    SKILLS:

    • Passion for natural beauty, skin care and cosmetics consumer, market and industry trends

    • Team leadership experience

    • Strong background in natural cosmetics and skin care product development and package design.

    • Driven to identify opportunities for creativity & innovation

    • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills

    • Experience sourcing and managing contract manufacturer and supplier relationships

    • Effective cross-functional collaboration

    • Agility and capacity to manage regular time line and fast track/opportunistic developments

    • Creative problem-solving skills

    • Successful track record of working in a fast-paced environment

     

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Advanced degree in Marketing or related field

    • 5+ years of consumer product management experience, with at least 3 years in with a high prestige cosmetic line

    • Strong written communication skills are a must

    • Team building and management experience
