    AS OUR GOVERNMENT RELATIONS SPECIALIST, your primary role will be to support company interests in policy matters related to our industry. This will include anticipating, studying, and creating strategies to influence state and local legislation on emerging issues; develop relationships with policymakers, regulators, and relevant associations; and draft briefs, letters, and summaries in order to inform senior leaders or policy makers of important facts in decision making.  

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Assess federal, state and local political and public policy environment, determine where legislative and regulatory action is advisable and where it is not, and develop, implement and execute a legislative and regulatory strategic plan, in coordination with Corporate Counsel.
    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with state legislators and staff, state executive branch officials, regulators, and local government officials in order to anticipate action and execute strategies. 
    • Participate in industry associations and summarize activity to senior leaders. 
    • Represent CBD Kratom in matters of state and local legislation, regulations, or rules that have an impact on the enterprise and state/local business operations, and drive favorable resolutions to those matters. 
    • Successfully leverage company social responsibility and other public relations initiatives with elected officials to help support and strengthen the company's reputation.
    • Provide paralegal and operational support to the Corporate Counsel including federal and state legislative review, coordinate state legislative agendas, draft briefs and position documents, research legislative proposals.
    • This position maintains databases, mailing lists and performs related administrative functions.
    • Assist with other projects and administrative office functions as assigned.

    Required Skills/Abilities: 

    • Ability to take initiative and execute alone.
    • Sensitivity to, and knowledge of, the political and societal environments of public health agencies and ecosystems.
    • Background in political science, communications, or government affairs.
    • Must be well organized and detail oriented.
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Skilled in listening and anticipating needs. 
    • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.

    Education and Experience:

    • Two years+ of relevant experience that involved the participation in state legislation.
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field or commensurate experience in lieu of the degree.

     

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
