    SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

    The student support coordinator is responsible for providing all students with barrier and transition support service assistance. He or she will work individually or in a group setting with participants and must provide confidential support to students when needed. Support services must be offered at flexible times to meet the needs of students. Local travel in the Coatesville, West Chester, Exton, and Kennett Square area will be required as classes meet in different locations.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Performs intake and assessment for incoming students registering for classes.
    • Provides program orientation in a classroom setting for all students, familiarizing students with support services that are available
    • Reviews goals with students on a periodic basis and helps to remove any barriers to achieving those goals
    • Follows up with all students who have not been attending class to determine challenges student might be facing and increase retention in the program
    • Maintains confidential and accurate student records including intake information, test results and goal achievement
    • Provides access to resources to assist with transitioning students to workforce or post-secondary education/training
    • Provides access to the following resources: financial literacy or money management, tenant education, advocacy and referrals, employment skills development such as: filling out job applications, interviewing skills, employer expectations, time management
    • Completes professional development and attends staff meetings and other meetings when necessary
    • Post-tests all students when required number of classroom hours has been attained
    • Maintains log of student attendance in class
    • Meets with participants weekly or bi-weekly as needed, in person or by phone/email
    • Interacts with instructors as needed to better understand student challenges and needs
    • Maintains awareness of community resources in order to make referrals to community agencies and counseling/social work practices with high risk populations. Follows up with clients and agencies as appropriate to document use/success of referral

    COMPETENCIES

    1. Sensitivity in working with people in crisis or in transition; has the ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally-diverse individuals and those with challenges and economic barriers

    2. Good documentation and organizational skills. Case Manager is responsible for student and program record maintenance along with learner hours reporting and additional reports that may be required by the Data administrator and/or the Program Director. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to establish rapport with co-workers, partner agencies and learners.

    • Ability to motivate others in persisting toward achieving goals.

    • A respect for confidentiality involving both learner clients and fellow employees.
    • Ability to work independently with strong sense of focus

    POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    This is a full-time, 32 hour/wk. position. This position requires that you have flexibility to work both daytime and evening hours.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field, with training in educational/vocational counseling, Master’s degree preferred.
