Program Coordinator, School-Based Diversion

Job Purpose:
CHOOSE 180 School Based Diversion (SBD) program is a five-week restorative practice for youth at risk
of suspension and expulsion in middle and high schools. In an effort to disrupt the out-of-school
disciplinary practices, CHOOSE 180 School-Based Diversion Program keeps youth in school, gaining
support for re-engagement. Students build intentional relationships with campus leaders, peers and
their community, while learning the skills necessary to prevent future disciplinary actions. This position
will work primarily with Seattle Schools including but not limited Interagency Academy and works
closely with the School Based Diversion Team and other program staff.
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Engage with students referred to program
o Complete home visits to drop off program materials and to locate youth if they are not
attending scheduled sessions.
o Create a goal plan that is attainable and realistic for students to follow.
● Maintain partnership with Seattle Schools Staff
o Work with appointed school staff to receive and monitor referrals.
o Stay in communication with students’ support team.
o Advocate at school staffing meetings for an appropriate intervention plan.
○ Advocate on behalf of the youth to ensure a harm reduction approach throughout the
School Based Diversion process.
● Connecting the youth (and/or their families) to supports and resources
○ Suggest culturally responsive resources for youths and their families.
○ Accompany participants to community resources for a warm handoff.
○ Initiate and document follow up contacts with all CHOOSE 180 participants and their
families to develop individualized, strengths-based, youth-driven support plans.
○ Participate in continuum of care meetings with other program staff to provide holistic
and shared support of students.

● Oversee and implement the summer youth internship program
○ Partnership with small businesses and other community entrepreneurs
○ Recruit and select youth participants
○ Implement curriculum and programming
○ Ensure goals are being met
○ Chaperone monthly field trips
● Support the overall goals and vision of the department and the organization
○ Ensure accurate records and administrative tasks by entering student referrals into
CHOOSE 180 databases.
○ Submit required weekly documentation of activities (i.e. updating calendar, client
progress notes in Apricot, reimbursement forms, assessments, etc.)
○ Participate in CHOOSE 180 workshop sessions both virtual and later in-person to
facilitate COMPASS curriculum.
○ Ensure participants have access to transportation services as needed.
○ Maintain a caseload of 15-20 youth.
○ Attend and participate in all CHOOSE 180 meetings, trainings, supervisions, and other
opportunities for professional development and growth.
○ Complete other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications for this position:
● Commitment to the vision and goals of CHOOSE 180.
● Personal or professional experience with the criminal legal system.
● Professional experience working with students in a school setting.
● Minimum two years of experience of client services experience.
● Strong youth engagement and relationship building skills.
● Culturally responsive in working with diverse communities across an economic spectrum.
● Must have a valid WA state driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation
● Bilingual or multilingual is a plus
● Must be able to clear background check & other criteria for working in the schools
● Full Covid vaccination required by start date in effort to maintain the highest safety
standards to protect our youth, their familes, our staff and our community.
Working Conditions:
This position is required to work some weekend days as well as attend after-hours events, and to be
available for consultation when needed. In addition, this position may be called upon and must be
capable of compassionate de-escalation and crisis intervention involving youth and/or family members
working through trauma.

Compensation and benefits:
CHOOSE 180 is committed to providing employees with a living wage and competitive benefits
package. The salary for this position is $70,000 annually. Position comes with medical, dental,
and vision benefits as well as generous paid time off, tuition reimbursement and a wellness
investment.
