    Job Summary

    The Authorization Coordinator is responsible for the timely initiation, follow-through, verification, and validation of all insurance authorizations for patients. The Authorization Coordinator obtains and processes payer authorizations including documenting, tracking, and maintaining evidence of authorizations. The Authorization Coordinator monitors bill hold for pending authorizations and resolves open-ended issues in a timely manner including missing authorizations and denials. The Authorization Coordinator also accesses payer portal entries as appropriate.

    In order to be successful in this role, the Authorization Coordinator must have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, have strong organizational skills with attention to detail, be customer service oriented with a positive and friendly disposition, and have a proven ability to work both autonomously and as a team member.

    Essential Job Duties

    Submits authorizations, monitors the progress, and follows-up on authorization denials for services at the Clinic and the Infusion Center.

    Establishes relationships with insurance company representatives, creates logical and organized notes, and charts timely updates to each authorization.

    Works with the Case Management team to submit authorizations for referrals and services outside of CIBD as ordered by the providers including: faxing referrals to other providers; calling patients with referral information; reminding patients of expiring referrals; working with the Front Office Assistant to assist with patient follow-up.

    Works with the Case Management team to investigate needed codes and submit required paperwork for new services either at CIBD or at another facility.

    Assumes shared responsibility for communicating authorization outcomes to the comprehensive clinical team including assisting with reports on the authorizations process and outcomes.

    Required Education/Experience

    High school graduate or GED

    1 year of HMO/PPO/Medi-Cal authorization submission experience

    Preferred Education/Experience/Skills

    Proficient in medical terminology

    6 months experience in outpatient community clinic environment

    Spanish speaking

    Licensure/Certification/Registration:

    Basic Life Support

    HIPAA training

    Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

    About the Organization The Center for Comprehensive Care & Diagnosis of Inherited Blood Disorders (CIBD), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is committed to providing comprehensive care for patients and their families with rare, chronic inherited blood disorders. CIBD is a part of a nationwide network of over 140 Hemophilia Treatment Centers that use multidisciplinary teams of blood disorder specialists to provide expert comprehensive diagnosis, medical care, outreach, education, outcomes monitoring, surveillance, and prevention services to people with hemophilia, Sickle-Cell Anemia, Thalassemia, Von Willebrand Disease, and other related hematology conditions. CIBD is the regional grantee for the Western States Region/Region IX providing regional leadership, fiscal and administrative oversight, grants management, capacity building, clinical education, technical assistance, evaluation, and outreach to public and private health agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
