Job Description
ROLE SUMMARY:
The project engineer utilizes engineering disciplines to perform project and product development activities. Dialogue and communication will be internal to the organization as well as external with key customers. This position will require the successful candidate to apply their educational learning towards real world challenges, and will allow growth into advanced project engineering and program management positions. The project engineer will possess leadership and technological responsibilities which include establishing timing, budgets, product design, and development of advanced technologies.
General Responsibilities:
- Ensures that safety is a priority for all activities related to the product and or project.
- Participates in CES (Cascade Enterprise System) mission center meetings, and utilizes CES tools to improve the product design process.
- Leads advanced product development and E&D activity in assigned area with capability to mobilize innovative solutions for market growth.
- Leads the review of lessons learned/best practices of other programs and documents new learning from each project.
- Identifies, assesses, monitors, and mitigates risk throughout the program life cycle.
- Leads team members to ensure excellent execution of design, development and implementation of new products from concept through the start of production.
- Communicates with internal business units / departments and customer technical teams.
- Responsible for updating customer engineering systems, such as Ford WERS.
- Completion of assignments involving engineering principles or techniques in the product development process.
- Leads CAD designers in assessing injection molding feasibility and efficient part design.
- Provides product knowledge and requirements to the tooling engineer and supports tooling discussions and approvals throughout the build.
- Writes and updates engineering documentation (e.g., design specifications, DFMEA’s, DVP&R's, etc.)
- Owns the product testing plan and results, including development of the DVP&R with the customer, procurement of test equipment, writing of work instructions, completion of testing, reporting of results, and developing appropriate reaction plans.
- Leads and implements cost reduction and VA/VE activities.
- Builds mock-up and/or develop sample parts using rapid prototyping techniques.
- Performs duties to ensure parts are identified, packaged, labeled, and delivered for customer prototype builds.
- Provides assistance with quotation activities.
- Attends mold samples and assists with operator training.
- Ensures good housekeeping and maintains order of engineering work spaces.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CORE COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor Degree in engineering related field.
- 5-10 years of experience in product development function.
- Possesses strong hands-on and mechanical skills.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Intermediate injection molding knowledge (incl. materials, design, tooling, and processing).
- Detail oriented individual with good organizational skills.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CORE COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's Degree in Engineering related field, or Business Administration.
- 5-10 years of experience in product development function.
- CAD system product design experience (ProE, CATIA, UG).
- Ability to function independently in customer settings.
- Project Management Institution PMP certification.
