     C.L. Heilman Company is looking for a motivated and experienced person to hire as a construction superintendent. We are a family operated business that almost exclusively performs bridge related construction and repair. Our work is difficult and challenging but very rewarding. The type of work varies from bridge demolition and repair to new construction and minor road work. This variety requires a broad set of skills from surveying and operating equipment to tying rebar and forming columns and walls and pouring large bridge decks. Since we are based out of Coeur d’Alene, we prioritize working within driving distance of town. One of the greatest aspects of our company is that our employees make a good year’s wage in only 7-8 months and take the winter months off to dedicate to their own pursuits.

    We are different from other contractors because we believe in direct owner involvement on the job. Applicants for management positions must be able to lead by example and have character that represents the quality and reputation that we have worked hard to build.

    Compensation starts at $45 per hour. Company vehicle will be furnished for work related activities. Personal vehicles are driven to the jobsite. Per diem is paid at $40-60 per day depending on the distance from home.

    Applicants must have a willingness to learn and grow in the following proficiencies.

    Construction Management Proficiency – A leader must be honest, hard working and have a positive attitude. Must create a clean and organized work environment. Be effective at working and communicating with other workers and the inspector. Commit to daily paperwork including email correspondence, diary, time sheets, scheduling, ordering materials, tracking submittals, solving problems and planning ahead to guarantee uninterrupted work flow.

    Carpenter Proficiency – Understand and apply vertical and horizontal forming principles. Be able to install and inspect forms and rebar for accuracy against the plans. Calculate forces on the forms. Field design form work. Calculate concrete volumes for ordering concrete. Learn how to operate survey equipment and shoot grade.

    Mason Proficiency – Understand concrete chemistry, specs, admixtures and placement techniques. Be able to finish concrete and check for spec smoothness during placement. Understand and apply concrete repair techniques. Be able to learn and follow field procedures for any chemical products used in bridge work e.g. elastomeric concrete, epoxies, sealers and grouts. Setup screed rails and operate vibratory truss screed and Bidwell style concrete pavers.

    Operator Proficiency – Must be able to safely and smoothly operate heavy equipment in a confined jobsite. Identify, communicate and mitigate jobsite hazards. Be able to organize efficient work flow with heavy equipment. Conduct routine maintenance and simple repairs.
