Heavy Machine Operator - Metro Atlanta and/or surrounding areas
Founded in 1996, CMES, Inc. is a rapidly growing, privately held Georgia-based civil construction company. We are seeking to add a Heavy Machine Operator to our team to support our continued rapid growth within the heavy highway, roadside construction industry. This role will initially be placed at one of our projects located in the Metro Atlanta and/or surrounding areas. The qualified candidate must be able to operate heavy industrial construction equipment including excavators. A CDL certification is not required but CDL and training certificate is preferred. This is an hourly non-exempt position and will be required to report to the job site daily until project completion. The role will be reassigned to another project located in Metro Atlanta and/or surrounding areas upon completion and will support the needs in the field. Our CMES, Inc. office is located in Norcross, Georgia.

SUMMARY
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
· Safely operates various types and sizes of heavy equipment and executes tasks
· Performs all duties to comply with safety and security standards
· Daily maintenance of all equipment and tools
· Ability to perform either rough or fine grade finishing, precisely spreading and mixing materials in order to dry and prep roads
· Ability to construct road surface to precise grade specifications
· Ability to lay cold mix, and/or shave and rip out old road surfaces
· Drives grader in successive passes over working area, observing reference stakes or hand signals of assisting worker, to level surface to specified grade
· Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.
· Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as mechanized broom, backhoe, man-lift, dump truck, road grater, front-end loader, hydraulic excavators, skid steers and inductor
· Operates jackhammers, mowers, brush chippers and other small equipment and tools to maintain street and utility systems.
· Works with and assists the line crew in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe, road grater or front-end loader.
· Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment.
· Assists in the installing and maintenance of traffic control devices.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
· CDL Preferred but not required
· Must have 5 or more years of experience in operating heavy equipment
· Experience helpful in maintaining proper records and files
· Professional demeanor with co-workers, visitors, clients, and vendors
· Knowledge and understanding of all maintenance requirements as it relates to heavy equipment operations
· Shows initiative and the desire to grow professionally
· Ability to complete tasks accurately with minimal supervision and meet strict deadlines
· Flexibility to work weekends and outside of normal business hours (if required)
· Must be reliable and extremely trustworthy.

Education
· High School Diploma or Equivalent
· Training Certificate preferred but not required

This position requires manual dexterity and strength in arms and feet to manipulate equipment controls, tools and other items used to make adjustments and / or minor maintenance. Will use hands, arms, back and shoulders in handling, installing, positioning, and moving items, and manipulating other objects. Employee could be in a standing, bending, kneeling or sitting position for long periods of time. Employee will sit while driving, often for extended periods of time. Must be able to climb stairs/ steps and to use handrails to enter and exit the truck’s cab and also enter and exit the equipment being loaded and unloaded. This position will require the ability to operate a manual transmission and clutch in both the lowboy truck and any equipment being loaded or unloaded. The position requires considerable bending, twisting, reaching, pushing and pulling, for example, while handling heavy steel chains to secure and unsecure equipment to the truck bed. Other tasks can require stooping, bending, squatting, stretching, driving, sitting, shifting gears. The employee will be regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. The employee is required to use hands to type and write.

Employee will be exposed to dust and fumes from cleaners, gasoline, diesel and exhaust. Employee will work outdoors, and will be exposed to the weather, including extremes in heat and cold and rain.
Working Hours
Working hours are 1st Shift Monday through Friday. Some Saturdays will be required as needed for the job.
