CMES Inc. was founded in February 1996 by professional civil engineers. The initial operations of CMES Inc. were conducted from their home in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The founders were only employees for a time, working diligently to obtain and complete projects within budget and on time as per contract specifications.
Today, we are still young, but also an aggressive company comprised of experienced professionals from the engineering, design, analysis, construction, and project management fields. We have grown to a workforce of over 300 dedicated employees and a fleet of more than 400 heavy construction equipment and vehicles. Our corporate office is located on a 67,000 square foot facility which houses contracts, estimating, administrating, accounting, human resources, and our fleet departments. 1.0 PURPOSE 1.1. The purpose of this Job Description is to establish and define the authority, accountability, reporting relationships, responsibilities, duties, and measures of performance of the Safety Coordinator for CMES, Inc.
2.0 BASIC FUNCTION OF THE SAFETY COORDINATOR
2.1. The basic function of a Safety Coordinator is to conduct health and safety inspections and surveys on CMES Inc. jobsites as required to ensure site conditions are safe and CMES employees are following all HSE protocols.
3.0 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS 3.1. The Safety Coordinator reports to the Safety Manager/Administrator. 3.2. The Safety/QC Site Auditor works closely and coordinates with: 3.2.1. Project Manager 3.2.2. Field Superintendents 3.2.3. Site Foreman/Lead man 3.2.4. Other Site Personnel 3.3. No employees report to the Safety Coordinator

Preferred: 1 to 5 years at highway/road construction job sites or other construction related job sites. 4.4. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES 4.4.1. Ability to follow written processing instructions with a high degree of accuracy. 4.4.2. Ability to follow established safety procedures. 4.4.3. Must know MS Word, Excel and Outlook 4.4.4. Must be Customer Service Minded 4.4.5. Must illustrate professional knowledge of hazardous waste, occupational, health and safety requirements and knowledge of OSHA and applicable EPA regulations, MUTCD standards and recommendations. 4.4.6. Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and be self-directed in completion of tasks and duties. 4.5. PHYSICAL The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 4.5.1. BODY POSITIONS: While performing the duties of this position, the Safety Coordinator is shall perform physical activities such as but not limited to, standing, walking or sitting in a shop environment. The incumbent is moving equipment, lifting and carrying items up to the level where mechanical lifting aids are sometimes required. 4.5.2. BODY MOVEMENTS: The employee must have full range of body movements including use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects such as parts for repair or removal and bending reaching and crouching to unpack equipment as well as fit in tight locations. 4.5.3. BODY SENSES: Must have command of the senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, normal color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Impairments of vision are acceptable if corrected to acceptable levels with appropriate devices (glasses). 4.5.4. STRENGTH: Employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds handling parts.
4.6. MENTAL The mental requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by the Safety Coordinator to successfully perform the essential functions of this Incumbent. 4.6.1. MATHEMATICAL: Basic skills required, ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 4.6.2. LANGUAGE: Must be able to communicate effectively in English both written and verbal. 4.7. WORKING CONDITIONS 4.7.1. The work is primarily performed in an open air environment on customer sites which are subject to extremes of temperature, humidity. There will be moving machinery and some work must be done in high or hazardous places. There will be exposure to fumes, airborne particles and vibration. There is a risk of electrical shock or explosion if work is done improperly. The incumbent will also be required to travel to customer’s locations in all types of weather conditions and the conditions at the customer’s premises are not in the control of CMES, Inc. 4.7.2. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
5.0 AUTHORITY
5.1. The Safety Coordinator has the authority to carry out his/her duties according to the agreed procedural/safety directives and supervisory guidance provided.
6.0 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of the Safety Coordinator include the following: 6.1. The incumbent is expected to meet quality standards by adherence to the established procedures. 6.2. Develop a satisfactory level of proficiency and productivity in the performance of his/her duties (completing assignments in a timely and judicious manner). 6.3. The Incumbent will follow all established safety procedures and will wear protective gear as specified for the job the Safety Coordinator is assigned to. 6.4. Conduct daily occupational health and safety inspections/surveys at CMES job sites. 6.5. Assists with conducting Safety Training as required. 6.6. Calibrate and maintain OH&S equipment and manage Quality Assurance of data collected. 6.7. Conduct exposure/safety assessments at CMES job sites. 6.8. Produce and maintain all paperwork and reports associated with monitoring occupational health and safety issues. 6.9. Recommend corrective actions and measures to minimize employee exposures to unsafe environments. 6.10. Inspects equipment, tools, and working conditions to ensure safety of workers engaged in construction and maintenance of overhead and underground power/other utility lines: Inspects safety belts, ladders, ropes, rubber goods, and tools and replaces those not meeting safety requirements. 6.11. Observes crews at work and reports laxity in safety precautions, such as failure to use hard hats, goggles, rubber gloves, and other safety devices. Implement controls necessary to ensure work is conducted safely. 6.12. Implement stop work authority based on monitoring results indicating potential change in conditions, or if an imminent safety hazard is identified. 6.13. Conduct safety, ergonomic and other surveys of the work areas on CMES job sites. 6.14. Develop job hazard analyses and other OH&S documents to ensure adequate work planning. 6.15. Support the Safety Manager/Administrator with regard to all other aspects of the site-specific occupational health and safety plan. 6.16. Per direction of Safety Manager/Administrator and in conjunction with the Compliance Manager, investigates accidents to determine causes (for Claims) and devises preventive measures to reduce accident incidents to a minimal level in the future. 6.17. Accurately record hours worked on each project and turn timesheets in as required. 6.18. Accurately state all work performed on projects. 6.19. Professionally and cheerfully greet and talk to customers, in person and on the phone. 6.20. Keep the Safety Manager/Administrator informed as to any problems in the performance of his/her job. 6.21. Keep the Safety Manager/Administrator informed as to any potential customer problems or complaints. 6.22. Assist other employees with technical knowledge. 6.23. The Incumbent will respect the rights and views of all team members at all times while performing duties. 6.24. The Incumbent is required to openly and honestly communicate all problems or ideas to team members and the supervisory staff at all times while performing duties. 6.25. The Incumbent will exemplify our “team” concept by applying, practically, our “How Can I Help” philosophy while performing duties (helping each other first instead of addressing our individual needs before the company’s). 6.26. The Incumbent is required to articulate questions, requests, concerns, information, with all team members and to respond to these things in a complete, accurate, and timely manner at all times. 6.27. The Incumbent is required to adhere to all the company policies and procedures as outlined in our Employee Handbook at all times. 6.28. The Incumbent is expected to perform other duties from time to time that are not outlined in this job description as requested by his/her Supervisor.
7.0 MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE The Safety Coordinator of CMES, Inc. shall be deemed to be performing in an acceptable manner when the following have been accomplished: 7.1. All projects are processed accurately according to established procedures at all times. 7.2. Safety procedures are followed and safety gear is worn at all times as required. 7.3. Equipment is cleaned and calibrated to the expectations of servicing the customers as required. 7.4. Time sheets are filled out accurately and turned into the office as scheduled. 7.5. Inspections and surveys are completed in a timely and judicious manner. 7.6. Customer complaints are kept at a minimum and resolved quickly. 7.7. He/she maintains good working relationships with coworkers. 7.8. The Safety Manager/Administrator is satisfied with the quality and quantity of work performed. 7.9. The Incumbent demonstrates and exemplifies the “How Can I Help” philosophy with all the team members consistently. 7.10. The Incumbent constantly and consistently adheres to the company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. 7.11. Incumbent has consistently reported to the Safety Manager/Administrator any issues that have arisen in the course of his/her duties
