The Opportunity: Technical Ownership
Our client’s facility specializes in high-precision bar stock machining for the Aerospace, Automotive, and Defense sectors. Unlike high-volume production environments, their workflow involves complex, low-volume runs that require daily adaptability. They are seeking a Technical Lead capable of managing the full production lifecycle—from interpreting blueprints to manual G-code programming at the machine. This role is designed for a professional who prioritizes code integrity, complex setup execution, and technical precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Manual G-Code Programming: Develop, author, and optimize G-code programs manually at the control (Fanuc/Mitsubishi), ensuring efficiency without exclusive reliance on CAM software.
- Comprehensive Setup Management: Lead end-to-end setup processes for complex Swiss and Lathe operations, including tool selection, guide bushing synchronization, and main/sub-spindle coordination.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Serve as the "Expert in Residence" to diagnose machine malfunctions, resolve harmonic/vibration issues, and manage critical offsets.
- Advanced Metrology & Quality Control: Utilize analog micrometers, bore gauges, and thread wires to verify parts against stringent aerospace tolerances ($+/- 0.0001" - 0.0005"$).
- Process Optimization: Refine speeds and feeds for high-performance materials—including Stainless Steel, Inconel, Titanium, and Brass—to maximize tool longevity and optimize cycle times.
- Operational Excellence: Maintain a clean, organized work environment and oversee routine preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
Professional Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in CNC setup, with at least 2 years of documented experience in manual (long-hand) programming.
- Technical Mathematics: Advanced proficiency in shop mathematics, specifically Trigonometry and Geometry, for real-time coordinate and chamfer calculation.
- Swiss Machining Expertise: Prior experience with Swiss-type sliding headstock machinery (Citizen, Star, or Tsugami) is highly preferred.
- Blueprint Proficiency: Expert ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications.
- Precision Tooling: Mastery of analog measurement instruments and a commitment to manual verification accuracy.
- Leadership & Collaboration: A proven ability to mentor junior personnel and collaborate effectively with the Shop Supervisor to meet production goals.
Physical Requirements & Environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and maintain mobility throughout a standard shift.
- Work is conducted in a professional, safety-centric manufacturing environment.
