DYNAMIC COLLEGE COUNSELOR
The College Counselor is responsible for managing all aspects of career exploration, college preparation, and college admissions process for middle school, high school, and college transfer students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
PRIVATE STUDENTS
· Working individually with students and parents throughout the college planning process, including:
o Monitoring and improving academic achievement
o Academic planning
o Career exploration, activities and summer experiences
o Standardized testing plan (PSAT/SAT/ACT/AP)
o College research, applications, and essays
· Presenting workshops and seminars
· Functioning as a contributing member of an innovative and creative counseling team
· Other responsibilities as needed
COLLEGE PLANNING SEMINARS
· Conducting high school seminars with partner high schools
· Presenting information at parent workshops
· Working with a group of students throughout the college planning process
· Complying with school-wide policies and procedures for recording attendance, grading, etc.
· Other responsibilities as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate possesses the following:
· Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, business, psychology or related field- Experience working with students with learning differences or college admissions is a plus!
· Master’s Degree or College Counseling Certificate from UCLA or UCI
· 2 years of direct college counseling, or college admissions experience. Direct experience working with students with learning differences may substitute.
· Strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills
· A genuine enjoyment in working with middle, high school, and college students and their families
· The ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
· Knowledge of colleges and universities is of great benefit
· Must pass a Department of Justice security clearance - Not sure how to word this
COUNSELING SCHEDULE
Applicants must be available to work with students after school and in the evenings in our Orange County office. Schedule may be flexible, part-time. However, the successful candidate must be available to work with students several Saturdays or Sundays per month and several afternoons and evenings until 7 pm during the week. Virtual counseling is also an option for our long distance students
