    US ARMY FUTURES COMMAND

COLSA is searching for broad and deep Lead Scheduler to lead the scheduling group in the Architecture Cell at Futures Command in Austin, TX. United States Army Futures Command (AFC) is a newly created 4-star command chartered to re-vamp and re-energize the Army’s ability to quickly and efficiently field combat capabilities.  The Army has assigned their best and brightest, both military and civilian, to be these change agents.  Everything about Futures Command is designed for free-thinking, non-traditional ideations from the location in the non-military tech-hub of Austin, TX to the Google-like environment of open and airy office space down to the total lack of military uniforms. But the single biggest innovation focuses on breaking traditional barriers that hinder and delay the fielding of combat capabilities.

    COLSA CORPORATION

To enhance and augment these other fundamental changes, Futures Command selected the COLSA Corporation to staff the operational center of gravity of the command, the Architecture Cell.  This cell is where the true synergy and efficiency envisioned by Futures Command will be developed, incubated and matured.  This is done with state-of-the-art tools and COLSA employees who are focused on the big picture, can synthesize new and innovative ideas with existing realities to create new and unanticipated solution spaces and then communicate these complex and perhaps abstract concepts to broad audiences using clear and compelling words and multi-media.

    THE JOB

This Lead Scheduler will build and manage a 10 to 12-person team of like-minded, technically excellent and forward-thinking schedulers.  The lead and 3 to 5 schedulers will be co-located in Austin, TX and the remainder will be dispersed at military installations throughout the country.  This team will, in collaboration with the COLSA Architects and the Futures Command staff, develop, iterate, and mature an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) of the current and future combat capabilities of the Army.  The process will begin with creating a Systems of Systems (SoS) IMS with 6 of the Cross Functional Teams (CFTs).  The SoS IMS will initially include the IMS’s of all current programs of record at that CFT and will evolve to include all capabilities under development.  Each of these SoS IMS’s will then be transitioned to Austin where they will be integrated into an Army Combat Capabilities Enterprise IMS.  All these IMS’s will be of sufficient fidelity such that critical paths, dependencies and other analyses can be completed for the SoS or enterprise.  This Lead Scheduler will be responsible for developing the ideas, concepts, processes and procedures that will drive both the SoS and Enterprise IMS’s.   This Lead Scheduler will report to the COLSA Senior Architect and routinely interact with key members of the AFC staff to inform, teach, justify, and defend the schedule, analyses and recommendations.

    THE RIGHT CANDIDATE

This Lead Scheduler has a very specific set of four capabilities.  The first capability is an expertise with some scheduling tool and experience using that tool on a complex system or, preferably, system of systems or enterprise.  It is imperative this Lead Scheduler understand the various analyses that can be performed on an IMS.  The second capability is the ability to develop concepts, principles and processes that can be adopted at AFC and exported to the CFTs such that the 6 CFT SoS IMS’s are consistent and coherent and can be smoothly integrated at the enterprise level.  The third capability is excellent communication skills including verbal and written skills as well as the ability to communicate through graphic presentations to convey complex ideas to a broad range of audiences.  The final, and probably most important, capability is a broad, wide-ranging view of the IMS solution space such that all the IMS’s are constantly developing and maturing to support the rapid fielding of US combat capabilities.
