  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under supervision of the Dentist, the Dental Personal Care Worker is responsible for monitoring and assisting participants with ADL’s during Dentist appointments. If there are no participants in the Dental Clinic, the Dental Personal Care Worker will assist with clerical duties as needed.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Provide personal care needed for Participants attending dental appointments (transfers, toileting, ambulating, etc.).
    2. Maintain all necessary equipment/supplies (gloves, gait belt, diapers, CPR mask) needed to carry out Dental Personal Care duties.
    3. Assist with verifying if participant has had breakfast/lunch.
    4. Keep log on participants who received/refused snack from the Kitchen.
    5. Keep log on who they transported to dayroom.
    6. Keep log on participants that were toileted.
    7. Offer toileting every 2 hours to participants in the Dental waiting area.
    8. Assist CNA in obtaining filled Oxygen tanks when needed.
    9. Assist in Hoyer transports for Dental participants as needed.
    10. Assist in transferring participants to the operatory rooms and back to waiting area after treatments.
    11. Assist in transporting patients to dayroom and to buses.
    12. Assure Dental Area is not left unattended while participants are present.
    13. Assist with clerical duties at Dental Clinic (ex: filing, retrieving charts for daily operation).
    14. Assist with calling participants/Caregivers to communicate necessary appointment related information.
    15. Monitor Participants in Dental waiting area and notify Dentist if any issues arise.
    16. Maintain Dental area in a tidy and organized fashion.
    17. Attend monthly center staff meetings or other mandatory meetings/trainings as scheduled.

    Required Skills

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Requires understanding, patience, and professionalism in dealing with participants, visitors, families, personnel and medical staff.
    • Demonstrates professional skills in the delivery of participant care and attending their needs.
    • Ability to handle confidential data according to policy and procedure
    • Ability to work with the elderly and participants in varying stages of dementia
    • Must possess good time management skills.

    Required Experience

    QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
    2. Must have minimum one year experience caring for the frail elderly.
    3. Experience in delivering personal care.
    4. Demonstrate the ability to effectively provide personal care needed to participants attending dental appointments (transfers, toileting, ambulating, etc.).
    5. Hands on experience in the care of physically/mentally disabled participants.
    6. Demonstrate ability to follow directions and document information.
    7. Demonstrate ability to remain focused and exercise critical thinking if participant experiences medical issues during dental appointment visits.
    8. Must be CPR certified.
    9. Bilingual preferred (English / Spanish).
    10. Must be able to clear pre-employment and annual background checks.
    11. Maintain ethical and professional behavior at all times.
    12. Required to attend twelve (12) hours of in-service training per year. (Monthly in-services provided.)
    13. Must maintain current immunizations as required by Bienvivir policies.
