    ESTIMATOR

    OPPORTUNITY WITH BALLARD MARINE CONSTRUCTION

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    Assists the NW team by bringing a strong estimating background and who is detail oriented, has strong communication, and works well with a team. WHY JOIN BALLARD MARINE CONSTRUCTION?     IDEAL CANDIDATE:

    • Formulates project estimates/proposals to ensure a quality, accurate and timely submission. This includes working closely with a current team of estimators and PM’s to provide turnkey cost estimates, including the mentoring of new estimators.
    • Performs material take-offs, organize pre-bid data, researches past costs and develops construction sequence.
    • Coordinates and cultivates strong business relationships with industry suppliers and sub-contractors.
    • Coordinates and cultivates strong business relationships with internal and external joint venture partners.
    • Performs site visits and investigations as needed.
    • Produces pre-bid construction schedules.
    • Conducts constructability studies.
    • Presents estimate quantities, rationale, and scheme to management during bid reviews.
    • Organizes and conducts handoff of project to operations if project awarded.
    • Attend and be an active participant in weekly job progress meetings with Operations, Accounting and Field Crews.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to work under pressure and achieve required deadlines.
    • Ability to proactively identify issues and offer solutions.
    • Must be flexible to travel occasionally.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

    • Engineering, Construction Management, or Construction Engineering Management degree or at least 10 years of heavy civil/marine construction experience with at least five (5) years of estimating experience.
    • Experience in estimating projects with values between $1 - $50 million.
    • Solid proven and verifiable record of career stability and estimating success is a must.
    • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, presentations and proposals.
    • Working knowledge of standard marine construction practices.
    • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, P6, HeavyBid (Required), CAD, etc.

  • Qualifications

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field with one-to-three years’ business experience. A proven track record of success is preferred. 
    • Working knowledge of marketing fundamentals, including consumer behaviors and key communication drivers.
    • Must have strong ability to achieve results through others and excellent customer service skills.
    • Ability to work independently within your region while serving as an extension of the overall team.
    • Outstanding organization skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
    • Experience in developing strategic marketing plans to achieve specific business objectives and company goals.
    • Must have the ability and willingness to travel 50 percent of the time or more, typically by car, with some overnight travel.
