    Job Description

    COVENANT HEALTHCARE, WITH 643-BEDS IN SAGINAW, MI HAS RETAINED THE WHITTAKER GROUP HEALTHCARE SEARCH TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL SEARCH FOR THEIR CORPORATE CONTROLLER.

    The selected individual has the potential to be promoted in 3-4 years when the Corporate CFO retires. As a key member of the financial leadership team, the Corporate Controller will be primarily responsible for the financial accountability, policies, and reporting. This role includes the supervision of the decision support, reimbursement, analytical, budget, and finance staff, including GL, AP, and payroll.

    POSITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Supervising the daily operations and mentoring of the finance team.
    • Supporting plans to address workforce planning and succession planning, assisting in refining the financial business intelligence unit, and helping to develop and execute strategic planning.
    • Responsible for filing accurate cost reports.
    • Management of the maintenance of the Chargemaster and cost accounting/decision support.
    • Responsible for departmental proformas and consulting.
    • Responsible for coordinating and finalizing the annual audit and monthly and quarterly financial statements.
    • Building effective working relationships & fostering a spirit of teamwork within the unit and with other directors and departments.
    • Focusing staff on accomplishing Covenant’s Mission, Vision, Values, and strategic business plan.
    • Setting and achieving departmental targets and goals and creatively leading the team to accomplish them.
    • Creating and managing a cost-effective work unit budget.
    • Managing actuarial responsibility for malpractice and pension.
    • Participating in developing the strategic and marketing plan relating to the financial goals.
    • Developing current year budgets and cash forecasts for Board approval.
    • Responsible for coordinating and updating the Investment Committee.
    • Understanding system and business practice concepts and high-performance work approaches and demonstrating how these methods align with organizational goals, as evidenced by improved customer relations focus, quality initiatives, and financial/operational performance.
    • Implementing new ideas and accomplishing objectives so that the organization can further position itself as leaders of excellence. This includes ensuring that employees share knowledge and understand how their decisions support the system’s belief in the mission to support them in taking personal ownership and pride in their role with Covenant HealthCare.
    • Creating an environment where people feel valued, respected, and energized to explore new methods of doing business, generating revenues, and taking calculated risks.

    Desired skills and abilities include strong system conversion, financial strategic thinking and planning, capital and operational, financial analysis, strong communication, and presentation skills.

    Requirements include a minimum of 5 years of financial leadership experience in budgeting, decision support, and finance. PC software in Lotus/Excel, Crystal Report writing, and TSI decision support knowledge preferred. A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related curriculum is required. A master’s degree in finance or business administration or a CPA and/or FHFMA is strongly preferred.
