    Job Description

    The VDC Technician must be an energetic, self-motivated individual with a focus on Process and Instrumentation diagram (P&ID) creation. This individual must possess the skills required to successfully execute project tasks, have a strong work ethic and be a dynamic team player. This person should also have a passion for VDC innovations and emerging technologies in the AEC industry. The VDC Technician would perform lead VDC functions for the team for all projects as well as coordinate with clients and sub-consultants on VDC standards. This individual will work closely with CRB project discipline leads, technical advancement groups, and the VDC Regional Manager on internal VDC standardization. Experience in AutoCAD P&ID and database-driven CAD software is strongly preferred, while experience with Revit and AutoCAD with 3D modeling capabilities is a plus, as well as the ability to work in other compatible design software packages. Projects will consist of both existing building renovations and new construction. Project sizes will vary and require documentation for various disciplines including primarily, process and mechanical, but may also include Architecture, Electrical, Fire Protection, HVAC.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist Regional P&ID Coordinator in training of regional project personnel in the use of P&ID tools
    • Create, manage and maintain the project design models and the associated drawings as directed by discipline leads and the P&ID Coordinator
    • Evaluate P&ID expertise within the project team as well as motivate and support project team members
    • Perform over-the-shoulder training to help facilitate development of project staff as well as instruct team members on various aspects of P&ID/model development, construction documentation and production techniques
    • Prepare, review, print and transmit all drawings for package issues and manage project websites
    • Coordinate VDC standards with clients and communicate standards requirements to the project team as well as incorporate and manage standards driven changes within the design software
    • Monitor and enforce VDC standards compliance for all drawing related deliverables
    • Establish file ownership and transfer protocol between offices, clients, construction manager and other consultants. This includes identifying contact personnel and documenting phone and/or e-mail information as necessary
    • Establish and maintain tagging standard across all discipline drawings
    • Work as part of a VDC support team to achieve consistent repeatable results
    • Demonstrate positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness
    • Demonstrate the ability to read and understand P&IDs and specifications
    • Ability to use independent judgment, problem-solving ability, self-starting and ability to prioritize based on relevant factors
    • Identify conflicts, incomplete or ambiguous design information
    • Maintain positive customer/client satisfaction both in the office and in the field
    • Continuous focus on personal professional growth and education
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Associate degree in Computer Aided Design, or a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, completion of Construction Management Certificate Program, or equivalent
    • 0-3 years of experience in an A/E design firm setting or construction industry equivalency 
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required
    • Experience with AutoCAD P&ID or similar smart-P&ID software and the functions of AutoCAD platforms is preferred but not required
    • Experience in Revit is a plus
    • Experience with 3D collaboration tools (Navisworks, BIM360 suite, Assemble) is a plus
    • Knowledge of supporting VDC tools (Revit add-ins, Dynamo, Bluebeam, AR/VR) is a plus
    • Industry VDC certification (Revit Certified Professional, CM-BIM, etc.) is a plus
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office
