    About the Department
    The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is committed to providing quality undergraduate and Master's-level graduate education. Our department offers ACS-certified Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. In addition, we offer research-based Master of Science degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry. We offer small classes, individualized attention and hands-on learning using state-of-the-art instrumentation. Our faculty strive to maintain excellence in classroom teaching and in their research. All of our graduate students and a significant number of our undergraduates conduct research with faculty, often resulting in co-authored research publications. The Department has an impressive record of student success with many of our students going on to attend prestigious graduate and professional schools and hold important positions in their respective fields.

    Major Duties
    Under general supervision, the Instructional Support Technician II provides instructional laboratory support services. The incumbent prepares and supports student experiments needed for advanced laboratories; prepares experiments for any student laboratory; assists the stockroom manager ordering chemicals, gases, glassware, equipment and other supplies used by instructional laboratories; prepares requisitions and interacts with purchasing, receiving and vendors; keeps accurate records of all orders placed via credit card; keeps track of deionized water use and arrange for the service of the water systems; oversees the stockroom staff and student assistants in the preparation of student laboratories; is responsible for reagent and unknown preparation, equipment setup and maintenance, safety and stockroom procedures; ensures that proper techniques are used in such preparations; ensures that all laboratories are stocked with the chemicals and equipment needed for each particular lab; and performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications
    Equivalent to three years of full time experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned; OR equivalent to an Associate's degree with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a related discipline may be substituted for one year of the required experience; OR equivalent to Bachelor's degree with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a related discipline may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    Knowledge of the principles of performing support services; knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques related to the discipline and the curriculum; knowledge of the materials and supplies in the curriculum and the curriculum and their uses. Working knowledge and application of analytical instruments such as spectrophotometers, gas chromatographs, infrared spectrometers, HPLCs, potentiostats, ion chromatography atomatic absorption, polarimeters and spectrofluorimeters as well as the more basic instrumentation such as balances, pH meters and electrodes. Ability and specialized skills to: plan, organize, and schedule activities; ability to operate technical equipment related to the discipline; ability to maintain records; ability to adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical and scientific equipment; work independently and as part of a team under general supervision; work effectively and sensitively with culturally diverse constituencies; organize activities to achieve an end in a timely manner; work with attention to detail and exercise good judgment; recognize and solve problems; read, understand, interpret, and implement technical riders and other written documents; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; provide good customer service; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

    Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
    The university offers an excellent benefits package. 

    The salary range for this classification is: $3748 - $6390 per month. 
    The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3748- $5000, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

    HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. 

    REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
