    Job Description

    Responsibilities Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, with a dotted reporting line to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Student Success provides leadership, guidance, planning and implementation of initiatives that foster inclusive excellence and equitable outcomes for all students, with an emphasis on improving retention, graduation, time to degree and elimination of equity gaps for undergraduate students. The AVP leads and communicates the campus vision for increasing educational equity, maintaining inclusive excellence, and supporting student success, while working collaboratively and creatively to articulate that vision in a strategic planning process. The AVP promotes best practices in student success, including issues related to diverse learners in a large multicultural environment and with underserved student populations. In an effort to ensure that CSUN is efficiently and effectively addressing the needs of its students, the AVP provides direction and oversight for various student success initiatives and associated programs and offices on campus and leverages technology and predictive analytic modeling and tools to supplement data-informed strategies for programs and services. The AVP collaborates with multiple campus offices (e.g., Office of Undergraduate Studies and units within Student Affairs), constituencies, committees, departments and units to develop a shared understanding of current student outcomes. The AVP works to build campus momentum and support for curricular, co-curricular and administrative strategies that help improve student outcomes and advance an integrated student success model. Qualifications Earned doctorate with a minimum of three years of progressively responsible academic administrative experience (including staff supervision) that included developing and communicating equity-minded decision making, inclusive excellence, and student success initiatives. Experience in a large complex system of public higher education is desirable. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Demonstrated leadership in shaping strategic vision and planning processes and initiating organizational change with a collegial, responsive, and creative approach required. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in student success and issues related to underserved student populations and diverse learners in a large multicultural environment required. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and access, and demonstrated ability to work in a diverse higher education environment required. Demonstrated ability to work with and advocate for traditionally underserved students and to support faculty and staff meeting the needs of these students required. Demonstrated leadership acumen, including effective communications across boundaries, the ability to lead high functioning teams, and strong analytical skills including the ability to link evidence with desired outcomes required. The additional academic qualifications that would merit appointment as a tenured faculty member (e.g., publication and teaching record) in a discipline represented in the University are highly preferred.
