    JMT is seeking a highly motivated individual, from the Herndon or NOVA area, who has the desire to advance towards a leadership position within the organization. This position has excellent potential for career advancement including developing and leading a facilities commissioning practice in the Virginia and Metropolitan Washington region. AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT, HIRE WILL BE REQUIRED TO BE FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19. PROOF OF VACCINATION WILL NEED TO BE SUBMITTED AS PART OF THE INTERVIEW/HIRING PROCESS. 

     

    The ideal candidate will have extensive background in the HVAC mechanical systems field specializing in Facility HVAC, plumbing and fire protection design evaluation, and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for various institutional clients’ projects. Candidate will be proficient at independently managing M/E/P and assigned commissioning projects while being able to respond to client requests.

     

    In addition to the technical and project management skills, the successful candidate will have some experience with and the desire to fully understand the business side of the practice including; business development, client management, financial performance, staff development, and overseeing the quality of our products and services. Existing long-term, repeated client relationships are a plus.

     

    The Senior Commissioning Agent will work with leaders within our corporate facilities practices to assist with the growth of the practice in the region through marketing and business development.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Working from the initial conceptual mechanical design phase of a project to completion of large and small facility systems construction
    • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate commissioning activities, including supervision of the document review, forms preparation, and overall progress of a project
    • Resolve a variety of complex problems, (i.e., conflicting design requirements, improper equipment operation, difficult coordination requirements)
    • Serve as a liaison between clients and agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and design teams
    • Review project contract documents
    • Provide technical guidance and supervise the work of other engineers and technical personnel providing commissioning support
    • Assist the marketing and business development for the VA and Metropolitan Washington region

    Required Skills

    • Must have knowledge of or ability to use Microsoft Office programs and commissioning-type application
    • Must be an outgoing individual who works well in a cooperative, team-oriented environment that spans multiple office locations

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or advanced technical HVAC systems certification is required
    • Professional Engineer’s license or industry-recognized Commissioning Certification required or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire
    • 15-20 years of progressive work experience in the HVAC mechanical systems field in the Herndon/ NOVA area
    • Professional registration or technical certification is strongly preferred
    • Building Automation Systems (Siemens, Johnson Controls, Automated Logic, etc.) program access experience is a plus
    • Must show previous experience directing or providing field guidance to others
    • Membership and participation in ASHRAE, USGBC or other professional organizations preferred

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work is performed within a general office environment approximately 50% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

     

    Field work is required approximately 50% of the time where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.

     

    Travel less than 20% to consist of overnight travel. Travel within the VA, PA and MD regions to be expected.
