    The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a key member of the executive leadership team. This person is responsible for providing experienced medical leadership to ensure all patient care professionals are delivering the highest quality of care and reducing variation in care delivery in all service offerings across all geographic regions.  The CMO develops and oversees the quality assurance and improvement programs, including but not limited to ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations that govern health care delivery and the requirements of accrediting bodies. This position, in collaboration with executive leadership, will have responsibility for setting the clinical strategy for the organization based on current and emerging trends in healthcare.

     Essential Functions: 

    • Participates and provides leadership in developing and implementing the organization’s mission, vision, values, strategic and quality initiatives.
    • Examines existing medical care standards, protocols, practices, and performance metrics; revises and enhances as appropriate; establishes benchmarks to ensure that patients are consistently receiving high quality care.
    • Defines scope of practice, creates and revises policies and procedures in accordance with federal and state regulations for advanced practice providers who must function under physicians’ direction and supervision.
    • Oversees the company’s Medical Advisory Board and State Medical Directors to develop and implement clinical policies, practices, processes, and strategies across the organization.
    • Directs the development of quality assurance and improvement initiatives with the assistance of the Medical Advisory Board and the Vice Presidents of Clinical Quality (VPCQ).        
    • Participates in hiring, onboarding, professional development, remediation, discipline, and termination, as appropriate, of Supervising Physicians (SPs) in collaboration with the VPCQs.      
    • Works with external stakeholders such as payers, joint venture partners, health systems and government agencies to help further the company’s strategy, ultimately improving patients’ access to high-quality, affordable care.
    • Actively participates with national trade organizations, such as the Urgent Care Association, as well as state and local agencies to help further company and industry initiatives.
    • Serves on the company’s credentialing committee as the senior medical advisor.
    • Reviews new service and product opportunities and ensures compliance with all state and federal requirements.
    • Holds the CLIA license for all clinics in each of the state(s) s/he is licensed.
    • Provides medical oversight of Occupational Health Services and Family Medicine departments.
    • Responds to and is available for media requests that increase the company’s visibility, credibility, and leadership.
    • Performs EMR/chart reviews and conducts medically relevant investigation and adequate summary of findings regarding high-risk legal patient complaints identified through the company’s consumer complaint system to determine if care was appropriate and advises members of the Compliance and Legal teams on appropriate follow-up.
    • Performs thorough medical malpractice case review and acts as the company’s medical expert to determine any lapses in the standard of care (which can be specific to state and local jurisdictions).
    • Participates in multifunctional groups to mitigate risk and ensure ongoing quality of care (i.e., Emergency Preparedness, Antibiotic Stewardship, Radiology CQI).
    • Keeps abreast of statewide and regional health concerns and alerts and communicates them clearly and effectively to other executive leadership levels to ensure the health and safety of patients and clinic staff members.
    • Identifies risk management issues that need escalation and works collaboratively with Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) towards adequate resolution.
    • Upon the occurrence of a clinical care gap or process failure, works with the quality assurance team to conduct a thorough root cause analysis and determine mitigating steps to ensure that the situation does not recur.
    • Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional development to keep current in the latest health care trends

     

    Required Skills

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION:

    • A current unrestricted state issued license to practice medicine.
    • Ability to obtain licensure across multiple states.
    • Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Medical Specialties in his/her specialty.

     EXPERIENCE:

    • 10+ years of clinical experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years clinical post-residency experience in direct and relevant patient care preferably in either the urgent care or emergency department setting.
    • Master's degree in health administration (MHA) or business administration (MBA) is preferred.
    • 5+ years of experience in a supervisory role with more than 5 direct reports.
    • Technology and Informatics experience required.
    • Proficiency with EPIC strongly preferred.
    • Executive experience preferred.
