    General Summary

    Software Safety Engineer located at the US Army S3I Directorate performing independent Software Safety evaluations for Army PEO Missile programs. 

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential functions)

    • Perform software system safety engineering evaluations of the developers’ software system safety, software development program, and software system safety related documentation including the hazard analyses and Safety Assessment Report (SAR) for compliance with MIL-STD 882E, AMCOM 385-17, and other software safety requirements

    • Preview software requirements, design, and verification tests and analyses documentation and/or models for compliance with software safety qualification standards and requirements

    • Review software source code and code generation processes and models and build procedures for compliance with software safety qualification standards and requirements

    • Review and evaluate the developer’s Technical Data Package (TDP) and presentations for the Army Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP)

    • Participate in IPTs, software design reviews, code reviews, test plan reviews, test report reviews, and problem report reviews

    • Responsible for analyzing, defining, designing and developing new system requirements *

    • Determines system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility *

    • Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system *

    • Identifies, analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies *

    Required Skills Required Experience

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or programming.

    • 0-5 years of applicable complex software or systems engineering experience.

    • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance; must be a US citizen.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Active secret clearance.

    • Experience with one or more software languages: C, C++, C#, Ada.

    • Software development or V&V analysis experience with a critical system similar to safety critical system.

    • Software development/lifecycle IEEE 1207, MIL-STD-498, etc.

    • Familiarity with one or more System Safety and Software Safety requirements MIL-STD-882, JSSSEH, AMCOM REG 385-17, SAE ARP 4754, SAE ARP 4761, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, DO-178C, DO-278, and DO-254.

    • Software development processes experience for Safety Critical Software.

    • Familiarity with Model Based Software development practices and tools such as Matlab, Simulink, Rhapsody, DOORS, SCADE, etc.

    • Ability to express engineering findings orally and in written technical reports.
