    This position is with Kirk of Kildaire, located in Cary, North Carolina. The Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian works through partnerships to serve our neighbors, especially those at the margins of society due to poverty, language barriers, and immigration status. We seek to meet human needs (especially nutritional and educational), to empower our neighbors to live life to the fullest.  We respect the unique heritage (ethnic, religious, etc.) of all people.

    THIS POSITION WILL HAVE A START DATE BETWEEN MAY 18TH AND 22ND, WITH THE DATE BEING NO LATER THAN JUNE 1ST 2020. THE SERVICE TERM IS FOR 6 MONTHS FROM FIRST DAY OF SERVICE.

    For this 6 month PART TIME (20 hours a week) 450 service hour term of service as an AmeriCorps Disaster Response Team member. The AmeriCorps program will offer a living stipend of $4,092 for 6 months (paid twice a month, on the 15th and last business day). Participants who complete the program will receive an Segal Education Award of $ 1,638.89 from the National Service Trust. Both the living stipend and Education Award is taxable income per federal regulation. (The living stipend may increase based on program participation)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    The Kirk of Kildaire serves as a Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Sponsor through the USDA.  During normal summers, we provide meals and educational opportunities to our neighbors, who are primarily Hispanic.  Additionally, we operate about 10 other feeding sites through our region.  During COVID19, we have begun serving emergency meals through this program.  Through partnerships with many faith groups, non-profits, local and state government, and businesses, we are currently serving around 8000+ meals per week in 16 different sites throughout the county, including homeless families currently living in hotels.  We continue to assess the need and expand as we have capacity.  Our feeding sites are all in areas identified as low-income by census data, school data, or by school or police feedback.  

    This position will help us to have more capacity to feed children and families.  This position will also help increase awareness of resources and needs.  POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    The person will work with our amazing team to administer various feeding sites. This will include meal delivery, site set-up, meal service, and site clean-up. Administratively, there are appropriate forms to fill out and proper procedures to follow. If it becomes safe to do activities at sites, the AmeriCorps member will help plan and facilitate activities that may include things such as recreation and educational enrichment. Additionally, the person will help with communication, letting families know of resources and letting us know of additional needs.  QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be able to communicate clearly with our partnership team, our volunteers, and our neighbors.
    • Must have access to reliable transportation and be legally allowed to drive a vehicle.
    • Must be able to read and write in order to accurately fill out forms.
    • Must be able to solve problems and ask for help as needed.
    • Must be respectful of different ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds.
    • Must be able to lift 20-30 pounds.
    • Must enjoy working with people, even if personal interactions are limited during the pandemic. Ability to speak Spanish would be beneficial.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Will be asked to set up feeding sites, which include moving feeding tables, coolers with milk, tents, and signs. 
    • Will be asked to deliver the correct number of meals from a vendor to a feeding site. 
    • Will be asked to assist with publicity, including social media,
    • Will be asked to correctly fill out paperwork for reporting purposes.

    PREFERRED SCHEDULE

    There is built-in flexibility with this position.  At this point, we are serving lunches and dinners each day (seven days per week).  We generally need someone who is available noon to evening time, though exact start and end times and days of the week are negotiable. If the COVID emergency food service ends, we will begin our normal summer feeding service, which may include breakfast opportunities.
