Job Summary:
The CVOR Scrub Tech is responsible for providing direct support to the surgical team during cardiovascular procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging surgical instruments and supplies, and maintaining a sterile field. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality cardiovascular surgical care.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and maintain the operating room for cardiovascular surgical procedures.
Set up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and other necessary equipment.
Assist surgeons during cardiovascular surgeries by passing instruments and supplies.
Maintain a sterile field and follow strict aseptic techniques at all times.
Handle specimens properly and ensure accurate labeling.
Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after procedures with the circulating nurse.
Ensure equipment is functioning properly before and during surgery.
Assist with patient positioning and draping under the supervision of the RN or surgeon.
Clean and restock operating room after surgery.
Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety.
Adhere to hospital policies, OSHA, and infection control guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Experience: 1–2 years of experience as a scrub tech, preferably in cardiovascular or thoracic surgery.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, surgical instruments, and sterile techniques.
