POSITION SUMMARY

This position prepares detailed drawings and develops and maintains all maps on computer mapping system

 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to:  Division Engineer

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides detailed drafting of maps and substation layouts. Prints and distributes copies of maps as required.
• Makes small technical computations as required.
• Posts daily to maps in mapping office.
• Updates all key maps as required.
• Updates City Limit Boundaries and assures that members served inside city are properly coded.
• Prepares and gathers data for GPS.
• Researches accounts using AS/400 as needed.

The MAPPING TECHNICIAN I shall be required to perform any other duties assigned in order to fulfill the objective of the Cooperative.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

• Must be able to perform the activities necessary to complete work assignments described in the position description.
• Must be able to utilize automated drafting programs, spreadsheets and engineering software.
• Excellent mathematical skills including geometry and trigonometry used to determine measures and provide calculations.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Seventy percent of position activities are typically performed sitting at personal computer, computer terminal and desk.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Plotters, blue line machine, personal computers printers and computer terminals.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Most activities occur in cooperative division office. 

After an offer of employment has been made, the cooperative requires a physical examination which includes both drug and alcohol testing

Required Experience

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A two-year degree or a certificate in drafting or a related field preferred. This training should include exposure to manual drafting procedures. Knowledge of computer automated drafting is required. Must be able to acquire knowledge of the RUS Specifications within a reasonable time span. At least 2 years prior drafting experience is preferred.
