    POSITION SUMMARY: 

    The primary purpose and objective for the IFR (Instrument Fire Respiratory) Tech I is to perform Inspections, Testing, Maintenance and Repairs (ITM) to Safety Equipment, for established customers, on a scheduled basis.

     

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Conduct service calls, identify equipment discrepancies, prepare accurate and timely Technician Worksheets (TWS) and reports.
    • Providing customer service in the area of Inspecting, Testing, Maintenance and Repairs of Life Safety Equipment. Including, but not limited to: Fire Extinguishers, Fire Hose, Gas Detection Monitors, Respiratory Equipment, Fall Protection Equipment and Safety Shower / Eyewash Units.
    • Responsible for completing accurate and timely testing/repair documentation and providing customer with copies.
    • Basic knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to assigned duties, i.e., State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations, NFPA Guidelines and Vallen Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Assist in shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders & distributing to sales associates for processing.

     

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • High School or GED
    • Mechanically inclined
    • Specific – RELEVENT experience
      • Will train in the Inspection, Testing, Maintenance and Repair of Safety Equipment.
      • Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen North America.
      • Current Motor Vehicle License with good driving record.
      • Commercial Driver’s License required if carrying loads of hazardous materials.
      • Assist warehouse personnel with order fulfillment if needed.
      • Maintain minimum productivity of 80% within 60 days.
      • Keep all certifications and licenses current and renewed by completing continuing education as required.
      • Ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process and quality instructions).
      • Ability to Self Manage and Work Independently
      • Knowledge of the Site is a plus.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Working conditions will vary with service work being performed indoors and out in the field.
    • Possibility of working in hazardous environments when working within a plant which would require safety precautions and appropriate equipment.
    • Ability to work in climatic weather (cold/heat) during day or night operations.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
    • Occasional lifting of items weighting a maximum of 55 pounds.
    • Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 levels high.
    • Ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, cage) up to 24’ high.
    • Able to walk at a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
    • Able to work from a standing position for 8-10 hours.
    • Bending, climbing, and stooping as needed for access of equipment to repair and service.
    • Pass all test requirements to be approved to work offshore. (If Applicable)

  • Qualifications
    1. LA City Fire Card within 6 months of employment
    2. BLS Card 
    3. College degree preferred
    4. Two years of endoscopy technician experience
    5. Experience in supply management and computer literacy
