    Lab Assistant II includes all responsibilities of a Phlebotomy Technician. Technician is responsible for the accurate and timely collection, labeling, processing and distribution of patient specimens to the laboratory. Processing functions include timely retrieval of specimens from transport systems, verification of sample receipt in LIS, centrifugation and other pre-analytic steps including use of the automated track system. Order entry of tests into LIS and responsibility for processing of samples to a referral laboratory. At minimum, the LA II is responsible for two additional laboratory core competencies. This may include processing of micro samples, competence as an LA in a specific discipline of the dept (blood bank, core lab etc.)

    Required Skills

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Familiar with use of LIS

    Required Experience

    • Phlebotomy Technician I or II license from CA DHS
    • One year as a phlebotomist preferably in a hospital laboratory environment. One year as a laboratory assistant within the specific discipline.
    • LA City Fire Card
