Café Manager Position Overview
The Café Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of café operations, including guest experience, team leadership, food and beverage execution, financial performance, and operational compliance. This position plays a critical role in creating a welcoming environment for guests while ensuring the café operates efficiently, profitably, and in accordance with established standards.
This role requires a proactive leader who is highly organized, service-focused, and capable of balancing daily operations with long-term team development and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and train team members. Create and maintain staffing schedules that support operational needs and service standards. Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and hospitality. Develop employee skills through training and growth opportunities. Recognize and encourage strong performance while addressing concerns constructively. Promote employee engagement and retention through positive leadership practices. Guest Experience & Service Excellence Ensure every guest receives prompt, friendly, and professional service. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming café environment. Resolve guest concerns and service issues quickly and effectively. Monitor service standards and implement improvements when needed. Lead by example in delivering exceptional hospitality. Café Operations Oversee all day-to-day café functions to ensure efficient operations. Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, cleanliness, and organization. Manage opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and operational reporting. Coordinate with internal departments to support special programs, promotions, and events. Implement procedures that improve efficiency, consistency, and overall performance. Ensure all equipment and work areas are properly maintained. Beverage Operations Oversee daily beverage service, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic offerings. Manage beverage ordering, receiving, storage, and inventory control. Conduct regular inventory counts and monitor product usage. Ensure compliance with all applicable alcohol service regulations and licensing requirements. Train staff on beverage standards, responsible service practices, and product knowledge. Support beverage execution for both daily operations and special events. Financial & Inventory Management Monitor labor costs and scheduling efficiency. Manage inventory levels to ensure product availability while minimizing waste. Oversee purchasing and vendor relationships. Track sales performance and identify opportunities for growth. Review operational data and key performance indicators to support decision-making. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control initiatives. Maintain accurate operational and financial records. Compliance & Safety Ensure adherence to all food safety, sanitation, health, and workplace safety standards. Maintain compliance with company policies and applicable regulations. Conduct routine operational inspections to ensure standards are consistently met. Promote a safe working environment for both guests and employees. Qualifications Three or more years of leadership experience within hospitality, food service, restaurant, café, or related operations. Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to develop and motivate teams. Experience managing inventory, labor, and operational costs. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service requirements. Proficiency with point-of-sale systems, scheduling platforms, and operational reporting tools preferred. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
