    Position Title: Café Staff

    Department: Executive Reports To: Director of Operations

    Primary Location: Washington, DC FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

    Parameters: Full-time; 12 months/year Pay Range: $17.50

    Position Summary: Oversees operations including ordering, inventory, meal planning, food preparation, and service. Ensures operations are in compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations. Manages and trains cafeteria staff.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    · Supervises, trains, and coach associates

    · Assists with interviewing and hiring

    · Plans, markets and executes special events/promotions in the café

    · Manages the day-to-day food service operation

    · Plans and supervises special functions, maintains cash controls and payroll records, and oversees the hiring of frontline team members

    · Directs and trains staff to provide scheduled retail services

    · Completes all daily, weekly, or monthly reports

    · Implements and maintains cash handling standards to eliminate theft of services or company funds

    · Ensures all QA and sanitation standards are maintained on a daily basis

    General Expectations: Employees are expected to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective, and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, employees must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with students, faculty and staff, and the public. Employees will follow all college policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines as they relate to this position.

    Education and Experience Requirements:

    AA or greater Degree in Food Service Management or a minimum of two (2) years’ managing a café.

    Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, food service and/or culinary degree preferred.

    Experience and skill to assess staff capabilities and workloads and redistribute when necessary.

    Skill and knowledge in food service accounting procedures, to develop unit operational reports and budgets.

    Demonstrated working knowledge of automated retail business system Strong understanding of food handler responsibilities and personal safety policies.

    Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, especially when collaborating with multiple departments within the university and exceptional customer service skills.

    Willingness and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment; highly organized and be able to quickly adapt to change.

    Working knowledge of general office equipment and experience providing high-quality service in a high-volume environment

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    · Work experience as a Cafe Manager or Barista

    · Hands-on experience with professional coffee machines

    · Good math skills

    · Availability to work within opening hours (including weekends and holidays)

    · Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team

    · Customer service attitude

    · High school diploma

    · Additional certification (e.g. in Business Administration or Hospitality) is a plus

    Work Environment: Work is primarily performed under general supervision in an office setting with appropriate climate control. Travel, early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required.

    Physical Requirements: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.

    Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting majority of time; walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

    Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important.
