    The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library is the largest library in the state of Montana with a spirit of collaboration among a variety of state and regional library partners. The Mansfield Library is a leader in the state in the use of technology to extend services and collections to the citizens and University’s global community. It is also the Regional Depository Library for Montana. On campus, the Mansfield Library is heavily used by students and researchers as a learning and social place offering opportunities for cultural and intellectual pursuits through its successful instructional programs, displays, distinctive collections and special events.

     

    POSITION DETAILS

    NON-TENURE TRACK FACULTY MEMBER:  The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Libraries, Adjunct Undergraduate Services Librarian

    TITLE: Adjunct Assistant Professor POSITION TYPE: Academic CLOSING DATE: Screening begins August 26th; applications accepted until further notice or the position is filled  SCHEDULE: Full time academic year position beginning fall semester 2021 ENTRY RATE: $41,000 for entry level; BENEFITS: Medical Insurance/Mandatory Retirement Contribution/Professional Development/Partial Tuition Waiver/Wellness 

    PRIMARY DUTIES: The Adjunct/Librarian provides user-centered reference assistance, information literacy instruction, and research support for the UM and larger community, with an emphasis on undergraduate students and first year instruction. Work assignments may include a mixture of day, evening, weekend, and mountain and river campus hours. This position reports to the Head of the Information and Research Services Division. 

     

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

     

    Participate as an active member of the Division, library, and Faculty Committee;

    Provide reference services for University members and the public;

    Teach information literacy concepts and skills to University of Montana students, faculty, and or staff, and occasionally community groups.  Specifically,

    • Collaborating with First-Year Seminar and DHC on library instruction.

    Support the research needs of University members and the public;

    Design library guides and handouts, including online content.  Specifically:

    • Assist with the integration of Credo Information Literacy – Core into Moodle. 
    • Work with COMM 111 and WRIT 101 instructors to move first-year library instruction towards Credo content.

    Provide communications or outreach to, and or foster partnerships with, university units.  Specifically:

    • Coordinate temporary move of Writing and Public Speaking Center to the Mansfield Library
    • Coordinate finals week events.
    • Serve as main liaison for Keeping UM Connected (e.g. SIN, Dining Services, President’s Office, Campus Rec.).  This group meets monthly and communicates regularly. 
    • Serve as main liaison to ASUM.
    • Serve as main authority for campus-wide programs related to undergraduate student recruitment and enrollment (e.g. Orientation activities).

    Complete other duties as assigned to meet the changing needs and dynamics of the Division and Mansfield Library.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library or information science;
    • Experience providing reference, instruction, and research support;
    • Knowledge of and recent experience utilizing electronic resources;
    • Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, and organization skills;
    • Adept at working both independently and in a collaborative, collegial environment;
    • Commitment to user-focused services;
    • Commitment to diversity;
    • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a rapidly changing environment.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience working in an academic library.
    • Experience facilitating or maintaining partnerships.
