    JOB SUMMARY

    The Infrastructure Architect is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for the design, development, and implementation of scalable and cost-effective infrastructure solutions. The incumbent will provide strategic technical insights and direction for the planning and deployment of infrastructure and application services in a scalable hybrid-cloud environment. The Infrastructure Architect will provide solutions that address challenges from a holistic application and technology portfolio perspective that align with industry best-practices and industry trends while contributing to the operational performance of CalOptima’s Information Services (IS). The incumbent will also be responsible for working with cross-functional architects, application developers, business analysts, and diverse technical teams to ensure the seamless integration and interoperability of application services within CalOptima’s technical landscape. 

     

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Owns infrastructure architecture, identifies design gaps and risks, recommends enhancements, and mitigates strategies (immediate, short, and long-term).
    • Evaluates existing infrastructure and operations technologies and processes; develops scalable and automated solutions to define gaps; and ensures alignment between infrastructure architecture and the overarching IS landscape.
    • Designs and develops the architecture for CalOptima’s cloud, storage, networking, mobility, IS management, and communication systems and platforms.
    • Leads architecture review planning meetings as well as documents and communicates technical architectures and system design standards.
    • Provides subject matter expertise around CalOptima’s technology architecture, including operating systems, networking, database management, communications, mobility, and cloud platforms.
    • Develops, designs, and creates the reference architectural standards and supporting documentation for CalOptima’s IS landscape.
    • Develops application mapping to infrastructure systems and platforms.
    • Advises CalOptima’s Information Security on infrastructure security challenges and solutions that account for sensitive data such as Personal Health Information (PHI) and Personal Identifiable Information (PII).
    • Provides architectural design and support towards Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Disaster Recovery Planning (DRP) solutions.
    • Develops and transitions workloads to cloud-based/scalable test and Quality Assurance (QA) platforms.
    • Communicates infrastructure architecture roadmap, standards, and practices to executives and the IS organization.
    • Hires, trains, reviews, manages, and sets goals for assigned staff.
    • Other projects and duties as assigned.

     

    POSSESSES THE ABILITY TO:

    • Establish standards, best-practices, and roadmaps for infrastructure systems and services.
    • Promote and support CalOptima’s strategy to standardize, simplify, and automate technology solutions, where possible.
    • Transform IS towards agile cloud platforms.
    • Have a deep understanding and experience with modern infrastructure, operating systems, networking, and databases
    • Design and develop solutions with hardware, software, cloud, and mobile platforms.
    • Understand the dependencies and relationship with core system integrations (with internal and external applications).
    • Work independently and proactively, with established hands-on technical skills as needed.
    • Lead and execute on assigned infrastructure projects and initiatives.
    • Provide leadership and technical guidance, mentoring CalOptima’s IS department.
    • Lead, influence, and improve assigned staff’s dynamics.
    • Have exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Challenge the status quo, emulate, and support a culture of innovation and curiosity.
    • Extensive experience with networking technologies, database management systems, cloud/hybrid-cloud platform, and mobility solutions.
    • Have solid fundamentals of security design (Cloud and on-premises) and best-practices.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with CalOptima leadership and staff.
    • Utilize computer and appropriate software (e.g., Microsoft Office: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and job specific applications/systems to produce correspondence, charts, spreadsheets, and/or other information applicable to the position assignment.

     

    EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or relevant field or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience required.
    • 5 years’ IT experience (at an engineer or architecture-level) supporting and managing operating systems, databases, scripting, and networking responsibilities required.
    • 3 years’ experience with cloud technologies (Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms architecting, designing, building IaaS, SaaS, or PaaS solutions required.
    • 3 years’ progressive leadership experience, including direct supervision of staff, in engineering roles on information systems teams required.
    • Experience with identity frameworks, including but not limited to OAuth, OpenID, SAML, AZURE AD required.
    • Experience designing and implementing disaster recovery (DR) solutions, supporting enterprise BCP plans required.
    • Advanced Certifications required in Networking (CCNA), or Microsoft Certification, and/or Cloud Foundational Certifications (Azure, Google, or AWS) required.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
    • 10 years of Infrastructure Architecture or technical engineering experience preferred.
    • Experience in the healthcare sector preferred
    • Experience securing and handling sensitive data (PII or PHI) preferred.
    • Hands-on experience with Windows Server, Linux, databases (SQL, MySQL, Oracle), scripting languages (Powershell, PERL, Python), Virtualization (VMware), and networking technologies preferred.
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Architecture (The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) preferred.
    • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) foundations certification or ample experience preferred.
    • DevOps experience preferred.

     

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    • Network-based security experience, including Network systems design and Firewall security.
    • Expert level knowledge in network protocols (including TCP/IP, SDN, SD-WAN) and expertise with network security solutions (Next-Gen Firewalls, Load Balancers, WAF, Proxies, VPN), as well as SEIM, CASB, and Mobile Security, NAC, MFA
    • Cloud security, especially with Microsoft Azure and secure Microsoft 365 environment.
    • Modern Infrastructure operational and monitoring toolsets.
    • Cloud architecture and security, especially with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environment.
