    CalWest’s client school in Greater Los Angeles area is seeking a MIDDLE SCHOOL HUMANITIES TEACHER to imbed content, processes and analytical approaches from a broad array of disciples: US and World History, law arts, archeology and others typically comprising a rich humanities approach. Area studies, comparative literature, cultural and politics are often options. A “Big Ideas” approach to curriculum design is essential. Guiding ideas might be include Justice, Fairness, Equality, Truth, Beauty and a host of other critical ideas. Contemporary issues, current events, essential questions and enduring understanding must be articulated clearly.

    Writing is emphasized and all ELA skills, standards, content are imbedded in the Humanities curriculum designed by faculty with the interests and input of students.

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Expert level knowledge in their field and competency in related fields.
    • Experience in project, problem-based models for gifted and LD. Training will be provided
    • Background in gifted and/or learning disabilities is desirable. Training will be provided.
    • Capable of facilitating the development of a broad range of skills tracking Blooms taxonomy.
    • Knowledge acquisition, understanding, application, analysis/evaluation and novel organization and use.
    • Differentiated methods for developing presentation and writing skills to improve written work and communication of their ideas; to assist students in finding their voice; and to learn to enjoy and take pride in the process as well as outcome.
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and an ability to keep multiple stakeholder groups, including parents, teachers, staff, and volunteers informed of critical issues, activities and schedules.
    • Demonstrate an ability and enthusiasm for promoting the school and its mission to a broad and diverse group of people.
