FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your role: FMI is seeking a Calibration Technician who will work at both of our Biddeford locations to perform calibration, and also coordinate outside calibration of FMI’s tools and equipment. This role requires a dedicated and detail-oriented individual with a passion for precision and accuracy. The role involves collaboration with various functions within FMI, including but not limited to Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality and Facilities.
** Job Responsibilities:**
- Accurately and reliably perform calibration of measuring tools/gauges and equipment, with ability to troubleshoot when necessary
- Ensure FMI is in compliance with ISO 17025/ ISO 10012, industry and any customer-specific calibration requirements
- Plan, coordinate and schedule calibration activities across the organization, including calibration by outside vendors
- Maintain calibration records in compliance with industry and customer-specific requirements, including FMI policies
- Develop, review and implement calibration protocols and procedures
- Use of Calibration software for records of calibration activities, and to generate reports
- Monitor calibration equipment performance for repairs, replacement and/or continuous improvement
- Collaborate with Quality and Engineering to define equipment/gauge calibration requirements
- Manage inventory of tools and replacement parts as needed
- Other duties and tasks as assigned
** What we need from you:**
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2+ years of calibration experience on varied types of tools/equipment/gauges
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints (drawings)
- Ability to analyze and interpret test/calibration data
- Detail oriented with excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to perform incoming inspection of tools for accuracy and completeness of documentation
- Attention to details, including strictly following existing company calibration procedures and related manuals
- Communication: Both written and verbal communication skills are necessary as this role requires one to interact with various departments including manufacturing, supply chain, quality and Engineering, at both sites
_ Preferred:_
- General mechanical or electrical knowledge
- Associate degree or other post-secondary training in a technical/scientific field
- Calibration Technician Certification (CCT) or equivalent, from a recognized institution
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 17025 and ISO 9001
