  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    The school psychologist provides a full range of school mental health services to meet the needs of our student body and support their academic achievement and character development, including

    • Provide individual and group counseling services for students and families that emphasize improved educational performance and/or conduct
    • Provide crisis counseling for students, parents, and teachers followed by referral to appropriate agencies as warranted.
    • Prepare recommendations regarding the evaluation and placement of students
    • Administer and interpret psychological assessments of students initially referred to special education and identified students requiring re-evaluation
    • Provide written reports analyzing, interpreting and summarizing test results, observations and information from school personnel, students, parents and other agencies. Confer with school personnel, parents and other agencies regarding the content of psychological reports and recommendations therein.
    • Maintain appropriate data on students, including present levels of performance and intervention strategies; submit records, reports, and assignments promptly and efficiently
    • Assists in development of systematic procedures for screening, referral, team assessment, program planning, placement, and follow-up for regular and special education students.
    • Serve as a member of the Student Success and Progress Team (SSPT) and Individual Education Program (IEP) team and assist in the development of accommodations and modifications appropriate for students
    • Collaborate with school staff around Response to Intervention implementation, crisis planning, trauma-informed instruction, etc.
    • Provide professional development to teachers and staff regarding mental health issues and supports, student development, teaching strategies, etc.
    • Consult with teachers, leadership, specialists, and parents/guardians regarding student progress and supports
    • Coordinate behavior management programs
    • Perform related duties
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Possession of a valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing; School Psychologist Intern may also be acceptable
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Bilingual in Spanish highly desirable
    • Demonstrated success working with students in traditionally underserved communities
    • Strong belief that all students can succeed
    • Collaborative team player
    • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively and interact effectively with different audiences
    • Demonstrated ability to adjust to and use new approaches and deal with obstacles and constraints positively
