We are seeking exceptional, motivated candidates for multiple vacancies in our section.The Environment Section handles a broad range of significant environmental matters on behalf of the Attorney General and the State of California. Assignments may include: conducting environmental litigation through all phases of state and federal courts; representation of the Attorney General in his independent capacity, pursuant to his statutory and common law authority to protect the environment; representation of state agencies, including, but not limited to, the Department of Toxic Substances Control and the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment; initiating environmental investigations; prosecution of environmental crimes on behalf of the People; close coordination with District Attorneys, including joint prosecutions of both civil and criminal environmental cases; and providing legal advice on an ongoing basis to client agencies and to the Attorney General.Graduate Legal Assistants (GLAs) who are part of the Environment Section, work as part of a dynamic legal team committed to public service. Under the supervision of a licensed attorney, GLAs will have the opportunity to work on substantive legal matters of public interest and importance. They conduct legal and other research and assist in preparing a variety of legal documents, including briefs, memoranda and legislative analyses, often under tight deadlines, for client agencies or the Attorney General and other constitutional officers.
