    JOB DESCRIPTION

    F/T: 9:00AM-5:30PM (SALARY, PAID MEDICAL/DENTAL INSURANCE AND PAID HOLIDAYS) (WOULD ASSIST FULL-TIME PROGRAM)

    P/T: 1:00PM-5:30PM (HOURLY WITH PAID MEDICAL/DENTAL BENEFITS)

    We are searching for a reliable, trustworthy, and innovative teacher to join our excellent school. The teacher’s responsibilities include creating lesson plans and curricula focused on developing social, physical, intellectual, and emotional skills, assessing children’s individual needs, and communicating with parents as required. One should be able to create a nurturing, stimulating classroom where every child feels included.

    To be successful as a teacher, one should be a lifelong learner who inspires a love for learning in their students. Outstanding candidates are able to accept failure, learn from their mistakes, and embrace creativity and independence.

    Our after-care program focuses on immersing children into culture, art, science, Christian education and much more. Our after-program gives more freedom and flexibility outside of our Montessori philosophy based full time program. The after-care teacher would have more freedom to utilize their gifts, talents and abilities in teaching to bring an immersive experience to our toddlers and primaries as the after-care program is available to our 2-5 year olds. Our after-care program runs from 2:30-5pm.

    TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Familiarizing yourself with, abiding by, and assisting others with following the AMERICAN MONTESSORI SOCIETY CODE OF ETHICSNAEYC CODE OF ETHICS, our HEALTH POLICIES, our FAMILY HANDBOOKEMPLOYEE HANDBOOK, and the DHS ADMINISTRATIVE RULES.
    • Attends all staff meetings and participates as an active team member.
    • Creating and maintaining a safe, clean, stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued. Plans and coordinates the Afternoon Program.
    • Ensuring the health and safety for all members at our school by correcting possible hazards promptly, recognizing illness symptoms, supervising children attentively and assisting with daily disinfecting, sanitizing and cleaning chores.
    • Informing teaching team and/or Director of concerns, questions or suggestions to promote school improvement.
    • Developing lesson plans, independent learning exercises, curricula, and methods that cater to the needs of the individual child.
    • Observing, guiding, supervising, and assessing children while they learn in the classroom environment.
    • Establishing rapport and building relationships with students and their parents based on trust.
    • Being culturally sensitive to the needs of each child and their family members.
    • Monitoring and assessing student progress and writing up reports.
    • Updating records on the school database and handling various other administrative tasks.
    • Handling discipline promptly in accordance to stated policy on discipline in Family Handbook.
    • Setting an excellent example for students and instilling good values in them such as honesty, accountability, understanding, tolerance, respect, love, and kindness.
    • Participating in school activities and accompanying students on field trips.
    • Interviewing and assisting with the training of new teaching team members.
    • Communicates with parents:
    1. Provides input for parent/teacher conferences for full-day children.
    • Supports morning program by supervising playground time, lunchtime and naptime with the morning staff; directs afternoon program for the full day children.

    TEACHER REQUIREMENTS:

    ONE OF THE 4 OPTIONS MUST BE MET IN ORDER TO QUALIFY AS A TEACHER PER THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES HAWAII.

    1. Degree in CD or ECE and 6 months in an ECE program

    2. Post-secondary credential in CDA or 2-year college program, certificate in ECE AND 1 year of supervised teaching experience in an ECE program.

    3. Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from an accredited college or university, 6 credits in CD or ECE AND 6 months working in an early childhood program.

    4. Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university, 12 credits in CD or ECD AND 6 months working in an early childhood program.

    • Complete 16-hours training annually as defined by DHS.
    • TB Clearance, Physical Clearance within a year of employment.
    • Provide Hawai’I Registry stating teacher qualified.
    • Fingerprinting and Background Check through the State of Hawaii. (Paid by school).
    • A lifelong learner who is a good role model for children.
    • Complete reports promptly including but not limited to incident, injury, DHS or Director assigned forms.
    • An ability to teach groups of children of varying ages, needs, and abilities.
    • Patience and excellent observational, communication, and diagnostic skills.
    • The ability to multitask, keep calm under pressure, and treat everyone with love and respect.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
    • Work scheduled hours aligned with school annual calendar and employee agreement.

    Note: COVID-19 considerations: To keep our teaching staff as safe as possible, students and teaching staff wear masks, except for meals and naps. We provide cleaning supplies and our teaching staff takes care of their own classroom's routine cleaning. We are mandating vaccination or weekly negative covid testing.
