Summary

The Landscape Gardener is responsible for the day-to-day landscape and paved area upkeep of the apartment community in accordance with company standards, policies and procedures.

The Landscape Gardener, as with all company team members, is expected to conduct himself/herself in a professional manner that is consistent with the Business Ethics, Employee Conduct and Confidentiality policy outlined in the employee handbook.

Duties

Follows all safety procedures and regulations

Installs, repairs and adjusts irrigation system

Weeds, mows, edges and fertilizes landscaped areas

Prunes and trims flowers, shrubs and trees within the guidelines required by each variety

Identifies, prevents, controls and treats any plant diseases as directed.

Identifies and controls problems with pests such as gophers, snails, aphids, etc.

Maintains all storage facilities, equipment and the landscape workshop in a neat and orderly working condition.

Regularly provides information to the Landscape Supervisor/Maintenance Supervisor or Property Manager regarding safety concerns and the general appearance of the community to ensure, high quality, safe living environment for the residents and marketability of the community.

Retrieves and dispenses of any visible trash or garbage on the property in route to work assignment

Performing routine maintenance around the building such as fixing structural damage, for example, window, door or wall repair

Repairing broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage and restore full use of water fixtures

Maintaining the building HVAC equipment in order to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Experience

Bi-lingual: Spanish and English

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Minimum of 1 year experience in a related horticulture/landscaping position.

Plant knowledge: awareness of plant types; trees, shrubs, ground covers and common weed species; knowledge of a few common names of plants.

General knowledge of pruning, planting, staking and deadheading.

Knowledge of names of the fundamental tools used and general safe uses of both hand and power tools used in landscape maintenance.

Skills and Abilities

Work Environment

The Landscape Gardener works on-site at an commercial property and interfaces with external/internal customers, tenants, and vendors on a regular basis. The position work schedule varies depending on the property. Hours are usually scheduled from 6:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and are occasionally scheduled to work weekends (Sat/Sun). Must be available to work over-time as needed and work on-call schedule. The Landscape Gardener should be flexible with availability depending on the needs of the property.

Physical Requirements

The Landscape Gardener physical condition must be sufficient for the consistent and successful completion of the specific responsibilities defined for this position and for his/her performance to be in complete conformance with all professional standards defined for this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, push, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, and hear. May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and operate power tools.
