POSITION SUMMARY
As a Dental Assisting Instructor, this position assists students in understanding the field of dentistry. Supports dental assisting school by training students on preparing treatment rooms, handling instruments and equipment, and dental materials/technology. Results and services of position may impact the short-term direction and/or operations of the BDG Academy Dental Assisting School. Decisions made have an impact on compliance, resources, and service as well as may impact public image.
SUPERVISION
This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Trains Students on a variety of treatment procedures, purpose and set up.

Trains Students on dental assistant responsibilities of opening and closing of dental back office, as scheduled.

Trains Students about asking for patient's medical history and taking blood pressure and pulse. Also on how to record that information.

Trains Students on cleaning specifications: Practice a high standard of sanitation and tidiness in the treatment rooms. Also, on strictly following the cleaning specifications for all equipment. Also how to prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment properly.

Trains students on Patient Communication. On how to make the patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment. Trains students to provide patients with instructions for follow-up oral care, follow-up appointments, etc.

Trains Students on how to handle emergency situations by following established policies and procedures.

Trains students on the importance of participation in all daily huddles, team meetings, and training workshops.

Trains Students on how to maintain and review patient charts (manually and electronically) accurately and up-to-date.

Trains Students on how to enter data into the computer system/practice management system as required. Also, on how to assist in the updating of patient charts as needed.

Trains Students on the various instruments and equipment used in a dental office and also how to inventory of back office supplies to limit waste.

Trains Students on the importance of HiPAA to maintain confidentiality of Personal Health Information.

Trains Students on the importance of OSHA and Infection Control.

Performs all other related duties, as assigned. May be requested to assist with special projects from time to time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (INDUSTRY, WORK EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION)
High School Diploma (HSD). Previous experience (at least 1 year) as a dental assistant required.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Previous practice management software preferred.

Regular attendance is required including varied hours. At times, individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with ability to handle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to consult Supervisor when necessary. Overtime requires approval by Supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers; and reach with hands and arms. Employees must work in tight quarters on a small part of the body, passing precise tools and instruments. Often bending over in assisting the dentist or dental hygienist. Employee must be able to remain in work area for several hours at a time. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to twenty (20) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. It also requires manual dexterity in combination of eye / hand coordination. Work environment is subject to many interruptions, varying and unpredictable situations and time pressures related to multiple tasks. Work is normally performed inside. OSHA CATEGORY
Category I: Personnel who engage in activities normally with exposure to blood or bodily fluids.
Dental assistants wear safety glasses, surgical masks, protective clothing, and gloves to protect themselves and patients from infectious diseases. They also must follow safety procedures to minimize risks associated with x-ray machines.
