    SUMMARY:

    Responsible for cleaning and servicing assigned areas.  Ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis as assigned by the Housekeeping Director or Linen Aide. 

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1.   Assembles materials and supplies from the supply room and transports them to the work area.

    2.   Cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings and equipment and mopping floors with special cleaning solutions and disinfectants to prevent the spread of disease.

    3.   Uses damp, disinfectant-treated cloths and vacuum cleaner to dust window sills, blinds, floors, furniture, and equipment in an orderly fashion.

    4.   Scours and polishes sinks, tubs, mirrors, and similar equipment.

    5.   Replenishes supplies of soap, towels, and other dispensable items.

    6.   Requests help in moving heavy furniture and in turning mattresses.  Reports any mechanical failures or negative conditions observed in assigned area to the Director or Linen Aide.

    7.   Washes walls and ceilings using water, cleaning solutions, sponge, and cloths. 

    8.   Gathers and disposes of trash, washes wastebaskets and large refuse containers, and relines with plastic bags.

    9.   Removes soiled linen from all areas.

    1. Periodically polishes floors using buffing machine and polish.

    2. Strips and refinishes floors as necessary.

    3. Other duties as assigned or required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    1. Must be able to endure long hours of continuous work when called upon to do so.

    2. Physical effort required by the job includes standing, stooping, pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

    3. Must know how to use common housecleaning implements, such as mops, floor waxes, and scouring pads, to keep areas clean and well serviced.

    4. Must know how to care for equipment, how to measure cleaning solutions, and be alert to hazards.

    5. Ability to follow oral or written instructions.

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

    1. Minimum, grammar school or equivalent.

    2. Previous cleaning experience in a hospital setting preferred.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the hospital. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 25 pounds.

    POSITION TYPE AND EXPECED HOURS OF WORK

    This is a full-time position in a health care facility that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
