    JOB DESCRIPTION

    SUMMARY:

    Prepare and cook large quantities of food for institutions, such as schools, hospitals, or cafeterias.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Clean, cut, and cook meat, fish, or poultry.
    2. Cook foodstuffs according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of portions to be served.
    3. Clean and inspect galley equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.
    4. Apportion and serve food to facility residents, employees, or patrons.
    5. Direct activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.
    6. Wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and other cooking equipment.
    7. Compile and maintain records of food use and expenditures.
    8. Take inventory of supplies and equipment.
    9. Bake breads, rolls, and other pastries.
    10. Train new employees.
    11. Other duties as assigned or required.

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

    Knowledge of kitchen basics, food handling and cooking procedures, workplace safety preferred.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the hospital. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 20 pounds.

    POSITION TYPE AND EXPECED HOURS OF WORK

    This is a full-time position in a health care facility that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
