Full job description
The Camp Director serves as the direct supervisor for the Counselors. She/He is responsible for the general overview of camp flow, monitoring the counselor's organization and effectiveness with the campers, and coordinating paperwork (medical forms, waivers, etc.). In addition, to this, they will provide training and daily oversight of camp safety and health protection protocols and organize all hiring documentation and camp inspection paperwork.
Essential Functions:
Observe that camper pick-up procedures are being implemented (check off name, return, nametag) and speak with parents, parents, guardians, or provider agencies as necessary
Enforce and overseas a weekly fire drill
Implement and enforce discipline guidelines and oversee the quality of work from the staff
Oversee the flow of camp events, including directing and assisting (if needed) the Counselor-led Morning Program.
Ensure quality of the programs for campers, including, monitoring daily schedule, reviewing weekly session plans, and participating in professional development for the counselors.
Maintain & manage the camp databases and paperwork, including updating contact information, attendance sheets, and medical forms.
Communicate with parents, guardians, or provider agencies via email communications.
Send emails the week before the beginning of camp informing parents, guardians, or provider agencies of sessions, drop-off/pick-up procedures, etc.
Supervise volunteers and counselors
Be present for all off-campus excursions
Contact and schedule camp visitors (special entertainment)
Hire, Train and provide support to counselors to ensure a high standard of health and safety for campers including:
Lead the planning of hiring and implementation of counselor training.
Review counselor session plans and give feedback to counselors to ensure successful camp sessions; give guidance and suggestions as needed.
Ensure the interaction between the counselors and campers is positive and supportive.
Monitor daily care of campers including recognition of personal, physical, and mental health needs; monitor the appropriate handling of medications
Observe weather conditions and safety of all activities.
Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper utilization, care, and maintenance.
Ensure that camp session areas are picked up, trash removed, and no food left in any of the rooms.
Support the implementation of positive behavior management strategies by all counselors
As needed, review, update, and implement behavioral management training and ongoing support with staff, including positive reinforcement, redirection, and progressive discipline.
Communicate with the director and lead team regarding behavioral incidents and outcomes; monitor Counselor punctuality.
Enforce camp electronics policy.
Ensure that the camp safety and health log is being used properly.
Provide weekly (or daily) feedback to the counselor staff.
Meet with Counselors at least once a week
Complete end-of-summer reviews of counselors.
Monitor financial matters
Review the payment status of campers and communicate with parents, guardians, or provider agencies the camp’s payment policy; send our payment reminder emails
Review and approve purchase requests
Monitor snack supplies and prepare purchase requests for snacks.
Maintain and supervise staff timesheets, ensuring that counselors sign in and out; submit timesheet hours to office for payroll (every two weeks)
Interface with parents and parents, guardians, or provider agencies
Be available to the parents, guardians, or provider agencies at drop-off and pick-up; oversee safe and efficient drop-off and pick-up procedures.
Mediate with Counselors and parents if problems arise
Check in with parish staff members weekly to provide camp updates
Lead advertising campaigns to our targeted audience to increase camp participation.
Position Qualifications:
Bachelor's or master's degree in business management or a similar field
Experience working in camp or recreational facilities
Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
CPR and First Aid certification.
Understanding of child development stages and appropriate activities for different age groups.
Education
Preferred
Bachelor of Arts (BA) or better in Business Administration or 2 years' experience as a Camp Director
