    Canal Wood, LLC is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, hardworking individual to join our procurement team as a full-time Timber Buyer in the area of Conway, South Carolina.

    This position will be based out of Canal Wood’s field office location in Conway, SC. The Timber Buyer in this position should live within driving distance of our field office location and be able to travel regularly in and outside of their assigned territory.

    Your core responsibilities as an experienced Timber Buyer will be to source, negotiate and purchase standing tracts of timber from area landowners, and possess the ability to procure and manage contract logging operations to harvest those timber tracts purchased.

    We are looking for someone with at least 2 years of Forestry experience that includes the direct interaction and successful purchasing negotiations with private landowners, timber cruising experience, and experience in procuring and managing contract logging operations to maintain targeted delivery goals.

    This job requires you to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time; lift, bend, twist, push, pull as necessary in regard to daily operations. Lifting is defined as lifting or moving moderate to heavy objects no more than 55 pounds.

    This position requires 20% office and 80% field operations.

    On a regular basis, this job requires:

    • Rigorous physical exertion in all climate conditions including inclement weather,
    • Working under hazardous conditions, such as; falling branches, vines, and maneuvering rough terrains,
    • Avoiding environmental challenges such as poisonous plants, ticks, insects, snakes, heat, humidity, and extreme cold which are every day, on the job occurrences.
    • Good motor co-ordination and manual dexterity for using tools, equipment and adjusting instruments to mark and measure tracts and trees.
    • Experience, the exercise of caution, and the use of proper safety measures and equipment—such as hardhats, eye and ear protection, and safety clothing and boots—are extremely important to avoid injury.
