Laboratory Microbiologist

Our client an Analytical Cannabis Testing Lab is looking for a Laboratory Microbiologist reporting to a Senior Laboratory Microbiologist to investigate the growth, structure, and development of microscopic organisms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Knowledge of lab applications of microbiology
• Ability to use colony counters, incubators, autoclaves, and microscopes
• Proficient with selective plating, aseptic techniques, gram staining, light microscopy, quantitative polymerase chain reaction techniques
• Compliance with all New York state requirements
• Set up and maintain molecular biology equipment
• Isolate and maintain cultures of bacteria or other microorganisms in prescribed or developed media, controlling moisture, aeration, temperature, and nutrition
• Study growth, structure, development and general characteristics of bacteria and other microorganisms
• Examine physiological, morphological, cultural characteristics and use testing instruments to identify and classify microorganisms obtained from customer samples
• Conduct quality control tests
• Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure proper working order and troubleshoot malfunctions when needed
• Prepare test solutions, compounds or reagents for laboratory employees to conduct tests
• Evaluate laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance
• Write and update SOPs, technical papers and reports for processes, facilities, products, or tests
• Maintain workflow and turn-around-time for customer samples
• Maintain quality control of micro area and consumables
• Create and execute method validation plans

EDUCATION: 

• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, or biochemistry
• Over 5 years of microbiology lab experience
• Cannabis testing lab or environmental lab experience in New York State
• Supervisory experience

COMPENSATION: $75,000 plus bonus and benefits
