    Our Cannabis Analytical Laboratory client based in the Santa Barbara area is seeking an experienced Analyst specializing in Heavy Metals and ICP-MS.

    Under the guidance of the Lab Director, the Laboratory Analyst will work closely with the Lab Director to execute sample analysis for their Cannabis clients using an Agilent ICP-MS to test for heavy metal contaminants. This position must work under the current ISO 17025 standards and will be responsible for all work performed in support of their assigned assay.

    They lead by example and ensure the work is being completed in a safe, efficient and timely manner and is performed in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). They are responsible for giving guidance to current employees as well as helping train new analysts and technicians.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities


    • Coordinate workflow through the department to ensure turnaround times are met

    • Work with the Department Supervisor to manage staff and instrumentation resources to maximize sample throughput and ensure production targets are met

    • Lead by example when processing samples to ensure that the team follows the lab’s SOPs

    • Use LIMS to ensure that samples are processed appropriately and update the samples’ status in LIMS as required

    • Apply technical judgment to determine potential problems for samples processed by yourself or members of the team

    • Assist with preparation of spiking solutions, surrogate solutions, and other special formulation solutions

    • Help implement best practices in the laboratory to maximize operational efficiency and maintain data quality that meets or exceeds industry standards

    • Demonstrate good leadership through effective planning, delegating and empowering subordinates appropriately, and leading by example. Manage people and performance daily, acting quickly and decisively when required

    • Ensure the lab’s operating supplies inventory is appropriate for current work loads

    • Appropriately follow safety requirements for the work that is done and ensure that your team members are also following these requirements. Immediately address safety problems as they arise in the lab (i.e. hood use, safety glasses, methylene chloride handling) to minimize exposure and maximize safe practices.

    • Actively promote a strong culture of safe laboratory practices and the maintenance of a safe working environment

    • Keep supervisory and management teams informed of any potential problems. Provide information to supervisory and managerial staff as appropriate on instrumentation, production, and staff issues

    Qualifications


    • Associates or bachelors degree in a science field with relevant lab classes or equivalent experience.

    • Minimum two years direct lab experience with a minimum one year ICP-MS experience.

    • Cannabis analytical testing lab experience highly preferred

    • Knowledge of environmental testing protocols, regulations and certifications.

    • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are a requirement of this position. Must have a solid understanding of process and workflow

    • The ability to use common software (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, LIMS) is required

    • Experience with LIMS preferred.

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as SOPs, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

    • Demonstrates utmost level of integrity in all instances and shows respect towards others and towards company principles.

    • The ability to write and speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of the organization.

    • Excellent time management skills which includes the ability to balance multiple projects concurrently (with different deadlines) and arrange the resources necessary to accomplish them.

    Compensation: $62,000 - $73,000 Base Salary Plus Health Benefits
