    JOB PURPOSE The Battery Test and Validation Engineer's purpose is to plan and execute battery testing per the Design Validation Plan. This position relates specifically to thermal testing, so working knowledge of flow systems and heat transfer analysis is required. The engineer will write test plans, build DUTs with proper instrumentation, and analyze thermal data. Battery thermal testing includes testing all temperature conditions and validating component temperature requirements. This job is hands-on in the Canoo Battery Lab, working alongside other battery test engineers.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Support battery testing activities such as Performance, Reliability, Safety, and Regulatory Tests
    • Design test setups with proper temperature sensing points, pressure monitoring, and flow control 
    • Lead Thermal Testing Flows on batteries and components to evaluate performance, aid CAE correlation, and validate product requirements 
    • Develop detailed test plans for battery systems based on Canoo technical specifications and industry standards 
    • Compile and report on all data collected. Work with Thermal Team to verify system capabilities 
    • Perform developmental test cases to explore boundary performance of battery systems 
    • Keep a clean and organized lab with safety first

     

    EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree in electrical/mechatronics/software engineering or equivalent
    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar 
    • 3+ years previous experience in mechanical design or test engineering environment, automotive is a plus 
    • Above-average knowledge of thermodynamics and heat transfer properties. Candidate can identify erroneous results and troubleshoot issues with test setups 
    • Hand-on experience operating lab equipment such as current cyclers, DAQ platforms, thermal chambers, and recirculating chillers. Basic working knowledge of CAN and Vector software tools is beneficial 
    • Experience creating automation and data analysis scripts (Python, MatLAB, Visual Basic) 
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Good written and verbal communication with ability to create effective, data-driven reports 
    • Familiarity with automotive and/or electric vehicle standards is a plus
