JOB PURPOSE

The CNC/Manufacturing Intern will work closely with the In-House Manufacturing prototype manufacturing team as well as various Engineering groups. You will assist in Machine Shop operations, data processing and CAM programming. You will help develop design properties for review and Engineering Prototypes for testing.  

This is a paid internship for Summer 2021 with an option to start on May 24, 2021 or June 21, 2021 and an option to end on August 13, 2021 or September 10, 2021.

RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Projects will involve hands-on work in a prototype production environment
• Projects may involve technical writing, documentation support, CAD/CAM programming, tooling selection, fixture design, CNC machining, inspection methods, and verification/validation activities
• Take a hands-on role on the shop floor

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs and be capable of utilizing dollies and pallet jacks 
• Ensure work areas are clean and organized daily 
• Operate manufacturing equipment when needed 
• Applicant must be willing to work 40+ hours a week on-site in Torrance, CA

EXPERIENCE  

• Experience with fabricating parts or jigs, fixtures, tooling, injection molding, plastics, ceramics, machine shop (CNC, mills, lathes, drilling, tapping) 
• Proven understanding of DOE, GD&T, SPC, and mechanical fabrication techniques 
• CAD experience for part and fixture design 
• CAM experience for programming 3 axis parts on mills or lathes up to 4 and 5-axis
• Understanding of High-Performance machining concepts in CNC
• Experience with cutting tool design and constraints
