    Job Summary:

    As a Principal Software Engineer, Backend at Capillary you will help us build the foundations that will power the next generation of digital applications and online services. Capillary has helped to accelerate many of the world’s most innovative companies by using our team of experienced developers, designers, strategists, and data scientists to craft applications and services that drive meaningful experiences between our clients and their customers.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • None.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Oversee, plan and engineer large software features and projects (3-6 months of work at a time).
    • Engages in business and/or technical problem discovery for clients. Helps to unlock new work and discover new problems.
    • Lead solution discovery for solving the client’s business and/or technical problems.
    • Iterates on engineering and process approaches, looking for what works and what doesn’t.
    • Mentor and guide Senior, Software, and Associate Software Engineers.
    • Work with the Product Owner to prioritize and delegate tasks to other engineers.
    • Collaborating with other disciplines to solve client’s business and/or technical problems.
    • Interface directly with clients to explain progress and technical solutions.
    • Connect planned work to business strategy and to what makes the company more successful.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • 7+ years of experience in Java, C#, NodeJS or related technologies
    • Excellent knowledge in computer science and software engineering.
    • Excellent knowledge of debugging and troubleshooting software.
    • Clear communication on progress and/or blockers.
    • Excellent understanding of how other disciplines work and function in the software development process.
    • Interpersonal skills to influence others around them towards company / project goals.
    • Strong cross organizational collaborative signals.

    Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or a closely related field and at least eight years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

    Travel:

    • This position may require travel up to 10% of the time.
