    PART-TIME 20 HOUR POSITION

    FUNCTION:

    The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) will serve as a recovery agent for participants in the Prince George County Behavioral Health Department (CEI) clients. The (CPRS) will provide and advocate for effective recovery based services to aid in creating a stable environment for individuals suffering from a substance abuse disorder or a dual diagnosis (mental health and substance abuse disorder). The focus of the position is improving daily living skills, Mentoring and Education and Wellness and Recovery. The PSS position brings a unique asset to the treatment team as the PSS has firsthand learned experience with recovery that allows the PSS to fully empathize and relate to the struggles of program participants and offers hope and support in overcoming obstacles.

    It is imperative for the (CPRS) to have knowledge of the Recovery process, signs and symptoms of substance use and mental health issues, and community resources that aid independent living. The (CPRS) should also have the ability to easily engage participants and build appropriate therapeutic alliances with solid boundaries.

    Required Skills

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Certified Peer Recovery Specialist should be certification eligible or have completed the process and requirement of an applicable certification board. Requirements including the ability to interact and communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing. The successful Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) must have effective oral and written communication skills, be able to develop effective working relationships with other staff, community partners, and individuals served at the program. Strong organization skills, problem-solving skills and judgment are desired.

    OTHER:

    • This position may require driving the company vehicle (up to 15 passengers) and personal vehicle for company business including transporting clients/residents. Must be privileged to drive according to the criteria set forth by Agency MVR guidelines.

    • Valid driver’s license in jurisdiction of residence

    • Vehicle liability coverage if driving personal vehicle (on occasion, may be required to transport clients in personal vehicle)

    • May be required to drive a van

    • Acceptable criminal and general background checks, OIG Exclusion check

    • Negative Drug/TB Screening

    • CPR/First Aid Certification must be acquired and maintained once employed
