    The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

     

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The CSIS Russia and Eurasia Program (hereinafter REP) seeks individuals with a strong background and interest in Russia and Eurasia as a whole. REP projects involve ongoing analysis of the economic, political and social developments in Russia, Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Ukraine, and the rest of the former Soviet Union, as well as their impact on U.S. and European policy.

    The internship is for the Spring term, from January 2020 to April 2020, with the potential for extension at the discretion of REP. The program will prioritize full-time applicants but will consider part-time applicants as well. Selected applicants will be contacted directly for follow-on interviews.     Applicants may also choose to supplement their applications with:

    • Letter(s) of Reference • A 1-page essay on one of the following topics:           a. How does the legacy of empire shape Russian foreign policy today?           b. What is Russia’s end-goal in Syria?           c. Analyze the spread and consumption of Russian disinformation in one democratic country. What were its intentions, and has it been effective in achieving those?

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

     

    • Providing research and writing support to Russia and Eurasia program staff. • Editing, proofreading, and translating publications. • Managing REP web content and social media. • Assisting in staffing and planning of REP events. • Performing various administrative and office management tasks as necessary.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

     

    • Russian language ability (equivalent to at least 2 semesters of University level training) is strongly preferred. • Candidates must have related experience and background of at least two years. • Excellent research and writing skills that will allow a candidate to gather and synthesize large amounts of information accurately and quickly. • Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects & priorities simultaneously. • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment. • One to two years of office experience and proficiency with entire Microsoft Office Suite. • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills required. • Able to exercise effective judgment, sensitivity, and creativity to changing needs and situations.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Direct Practice responsibilities include:

    • Introductory phone calls to youth and families.
    • Home visits, intakes and assessments, referrals, advocacy, clinical case management, crisis intervention and linkage to community based services.
    • Individual and family counseling.
    • Convene and lead case conferences for clients with families and providers.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with community-based service providers and other public/private providers such as the Department of Children and Family, Department of Youth Services, churches, schools, courts, etc.
    • Attend community based meetings pertinent to needs/issues of youth in community.
    • Maintain accurate and timely case records via an electronic database.
    • Participate in weekly individual supervision, group supervision and staff meetings.
